"Highly colored, fine tannin, long and flavorful, beautifully elegant texture, brilliant: a real second birth for this cru, which has been very well taken in hand. The exacting selection of plots used for the grand vin has given it an extra breed that makes Malescasse tend towards the side of its Saint-Julien neighbors". (Le Guide des Vins Bettane & Desseauve)

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 16.5/20 (Reference wine)
Domaine rated 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the wine:
Highly colored, fine tannin, long and flavorful, elegant texture, brilliant: a veritable second birth for this cru, which is now back on track. The rigorous selection of plots used for the grand vin has given Malescasse an extra touch of breed, putting it on a par with its Saint-Julien neighbors.
About the domain :
On well-draining gravel, Malescasse is in good hands. A great deal of work has been undertaken, firstly in the vineyard, with the uprooting of tired vines and the planting of high-density plots. The buildings have also been renovated. Thanks to Stéphane Derenoncourt's work, the wines, which have been very classic until now, have already gained in precision and complexity.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine rated (2019 guide) 2*Coup de Coeur (Outstanding wine)
Domaine noté (guide 2020) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the wine:
This fine estate, which has fully recovered its form, offers here a wine worthy of its terroir. Still marked by wood, the nascent bouquet is promising, as is the palate, where there is a very good balance between the tannins of the grape and those of the wood. All in all, the wine is of the highest quality, perfectly typified and beautifully crafted.
About the domain :
Eight windows with eight panes: the number eight governs the architecture of the château. Built in 1824 on the highest point of Lamarque, it commands a 40-hectare vineyard on a white gravelly hilltop between Margaux and Saint-Julien-Beychevelle. It was bought from the Tesseron family in 2012 by entrepreneur Philippe Austruy and his Gema Viticole group.

About the wine:
This estate, located in the Gironde port village of Lamarque, produces a richly textured wine, with flavors of chocolate and bitter cocoa. That's just a problem for now, as ripe blackcurrant fruit develops beneath the structure to give density, concentration and a serious wine as it ages. Drink from 2021.

About the wine:
Ripe dark plum fruit and baking spices framed by notes of cedar with herbaceous complexity in the background. This leads to a fairly full-bodied palate delivering muscular tannins with blackcurrant and blackberry flavors to wrap it all up. Try from 2020.

Quite disappointed, it already seems very evolved and lacks body. The nose is promising, but nothing much happens on the palate...
