Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2020 guide) 93-94/100
3*Star rating (High-quality production, a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
Very fine, with no lack of body, exemplary floral notes for the appellation, lots of nuance and friendliness. Highly recommendable for its price.
About the domain :
For 25 years, Laurent von der Heyden has demonstrated that he produces one of the most elegant margaux in the world. Situated on the finest Arsac gravel, Monbrison draws all its refinement from the gravel, the perfect archetype for delicate, unctuous margaux. Over the last few vintages, we've been delighted to note that the wines are increasingly pure, precise and energetic. The 2015 was impressive, and the 2016 and 2018 are just as impressive.

About the domain :
Acquired in 1922 by the American Robert M. David, this cru, founded in the 18th century and commanded by an elegant manor house, was put back on track in the 1980s by his grandson Jean-Luc Vonderheyden (who died in 1992). The latter's brother, Laurent, now manages a 14-hectare vineyard in a single block, south of Margaux.

Rated wine (guide 2022) 92/100
About the wine:
Monbrison 2019 is classy, polished and elegant, just as it was in barrel. Crushed flowers, sweet berries, spices, mint and sweet pipe tobacco give this discreet, expressive Margaux an air of finesse that's not misleading. 2024-2034

Terre de Vins
Wine rated (2020 guide) 93-94/100
About the wine:
Very powerful nose of blackberry. The attack is supple and very appealing. The wine doesn't play on length, but coats the palate with a complex aromatic palette, from tobacco to coffee, blackberry and raspberry. Beautiful Margaux!
