Score : Robert Parker 92/100
"A spectacular wine made by the owners of Château Chasse-Spleen, a serious, dense, full-bodied wine that blends equal parts Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Abundant black fruit, licorice, truffle and new leather are present, along with some toasty oak nuances. Full-bodied, deep, pure and exceptionally long on the palate, this is a perfection to drink over the next 10-15+ years." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)

About the wine:

Situated on the beautiful gravelly terroir of Grand-Poujeaux, this cru is one of the most renowned in the Médoc. During the second half of the 20th century, it was owned by the Theil family, who unified the vineyard - today 68 ha in a single block, planted almost equally with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot (Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc account for only 7%) - and brought the estate to the top of the appellation. Since 2008, it has belonged to Philippe Cuvelier and his son Matthieu, who also own Clos Fourtet, Saint-Emilion's 1er grand cru classé. Once again, it justifies its reputation with an admirable 2010. The intensity and elegance of the bright garnet-red color are matched by an equally seductive bouquet of ripe fruit, toast and spices with floral nuances. Built on a noble woodiness and muscular tannins, without harshness, the palate is powerful and robust, yet retains real elegance and remarkable balance. A truly great wine for laying down, which it would be a shame to serve for at least four or five years.
