"With its beautifully mature palate, expressive fruitiness and fine texture, it stands out in the vintage as a serious outsider. Its class is obvious and its length impressive. A wine to keep an eye on. (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2020 - RVF) The 100-hectare estate, including 60 hectares of vines, has been in the family since 1924. The tight gravelly-packed soil makes this a very racy cru, true to the Pauillac appellation. Delivery in wooden cases for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (excluding Point Relais delivery).

Château Batailley
Pauillac
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 15/20 (Very good wine)
Domaine rated (guide 2021) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the wine:
The racy cedar notes and refined palette of tertiary aromas give an interesting personality to a wine that obviously lacks the power of previous and subsequent vintages.
About the domain :
Owned by the Castéja family, and intelligently advised by the late Denis Dubourdieu, the wine has rediscovered the fullness of its style, combining the power it often displayed between 1945 and 1961 with infinitely more purity and aromatic finesse. The wines have progressed spectacularly since the 2000s and represent one of Pauillac's most reliable value-for-money offerings. Since 2015, a second wine, lions-de-batailley, has enabled an even more rigorous selection of the grand vin blend.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domaine noté (guide 2021) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
The flagship of Borie Manoux, a venerable trading house founded in 1870 by the Castéja family, one of Pauillac's oldest families, and owner of the cru since 1932. A beautiful 55-hectare unit at the south-western end of the appellation, which owes its name to a battle that took place on these lands in 1453.

Wine rated (2017 guide) 16.5/20 (Very good wine)
Domaine rated (guide 2022) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the wine:
With its beautifully mature palate, expressive fruitiness and fine texture, it stands out in the vintage as a serious outsider. Its class is obvious and its length impressive. A wine to keep an eye on.
About the domain :
Philippe Castéja produces a Pauillac of classic style and form, which has gained considerably in definition and precision in recent years. The wine also ages remarkably well, retaining a profile very typical of the Médoc's great wines, between straightforwardness and precision. Prices remain very affordable. We are delighted by the consistency and excellent level of recent vintages.
Jancis Robinson
Wine rated (2014 guide) 16.5/20
About the wine:
Sweet fruit, but with a very slight hint of herbs to give a savory touch. Dry, velvety texture, but plenty of refreshing acidity to balance it out. Nicely made - not over-ambitious, but lots of drinking pleasure.
James Suckling
Wine rated (2014 guide) 90-91/100
About the wine:
Very racy, with lovely purity and length. Body full of minerals and stone. Muscular. 94% Cabernet Sauvignon with the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot. Very, very impressive.
