"The definition of a 2nd wine!"

" Corresponds to the definition of a second wine: fruitier, easier to drink. The nose shows beautiful nuances of brambles, black fruits, with lots of Merlot. Beautiful acidity and balance here, the wine is not shrill, but very delicate and refined. It's juicy, with a crushed-stone texture, giving plenty of lively fruit, but with depth and definition. Crushed stones and licorice, but overall easy, approachable, with good balance and flavor. Cool, classic and refreshing. It's not extremely complex or particularly fruity, it's leaner than you'd expect, but it's utterly charming. Very easy to drink. (Decanter 2023)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

The Cazes family is now the owner of this cru, a division of Château Batailley. The vines can be spotted by the picturesque Aspic tower in the middle of the vineyard and the wine-red color of the winery. The wine produced an elegant, relatively supple Pauillac during the Borie period, and seems to have gained in body and intensity without losing any of its finesse.

Domaine rated (2020 guide) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the domain :

A new history is about to be written for this cru, which had long been run on a tenant basis by François-Xavier Borie (Grand-Puy-Lacoste), and was sold to the Cazes family in 2017. The technical facilities are up to date, and the quality of the wines is consistent. We'll have to follow its stylistic evolution in the vintages to come, but we have no concerns about the new owners' ability to take it even further.

Rated (guide 2023) 90/100 (Very good wine)

About the wine:

Bewitching, with an open feel combined with good depth of blackberry and blackcurrant flavors, lined with hints of tobacco and balsam wood. Finishes on a fragrant, old-school note. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2033.

Vinous A. Galloni

Vinous A. Galloni

Rated wine (guide 2021) 90/100

About the wine:

Verso 2020, bottled after 12 months in barrel, has clearly come out of its shell since I tasted it in barrel. It bursts from the glass with aromas of red cherries and crushed strawberries, touches of black plum and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, very pure with a touch of cracked black pepper and graphite towards the well-proportioned finish. Very good. 2025-2035

About the wine:

A firm, silky red with medium body, chewy tannins and a fresh finish. Shows linear depth and tension for a second wine.

About the wine:

The nose opens with a tender bouquet of ripe cherry. The same sweetness continues on the palate, with aromas of summer red fruits, for a gourmet taste refreshed by a hint of acidity. 2028-2040
