Château Lynch-Moussas
Pauillac
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2020 guide) 16.5/20 (Reference wine)
Domain rated (2020 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
Fine confirmation of the cru's success in this vintage, with a very generous, deep, persistent wine. Beautiful aromas of black and smoky fruits and velvety tannins. Drink between 2021 and 2026.
About the domain :
Philippe Castéja has worked hard to restore a superb family estate in the Pauillac hinterland. The aging of the vines and the construction of a high-performance work tool enable him to produce a supple, fleshy wine that is constantly improving. Its terroir enables it to open up before most of the wines in its appellation, which should make it more present on restaurant menus, with good value for money.
Guide Hachette des vins
Domain rated (guide 2021) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
Owned since the 18th century by Count Lynch, until it was divided in two, giving Lynch Moussas and Lynch-Bages. Émile Castéja, who joined the family in 1919, took over the estate in 1969 and restructured the vines and winery. His son Philippe has been at the helm of this 35-hectare cru, close to Batailley, also owned by the Castéja family, since 2001.
Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
Rated (2017 guide) 91/100 (Outstanding wine)
About the wine:
Lynch-Moussas 2014 was actually more expressive than Batailley 2014 on the nose, with scents of redcurrant, cranberry and wild strawberry mingling with undergrowth and tobacco. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a lively line of acidity, well balanced with lovely notes of smoke and tobacco complementing the red fruits on the finish. A Pauillac with good potential, which risks being underestimated by the market, which has not yet realized how much the Castèja family has improved the estate.

Domain rated (guide 2020) Selected (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the domains that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the domain :
For several years now, Philippe Castéja has been giving new impetus to this classified growth. Oenologist Denis Dubourdieu has carried out extensive work on the estate, starting with the reorganization of the vineyard. Over the last few vintages, the wines have progressed and the château benefits from technical facilities that should enable it to go even further. Lynch-Moussas produces a relatively fine, medium-bodied wine that can be drunk fairly quickly.
Wine Enthusiast
Wine rated (2017 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
This wine's initial tannins have softened considerably. It is now dominated by ripe fruit. The wine is soft and jammy, with lovely blackcurrant notes and a layer of firm tannins underneath. Drink from 2022.
Vinous A. Galloni
Wine rated (2018 guide) 91/100
About the wine:
Lynch-Moussas 2014 presents a nose of red fruits: red cherries, raspberries and wild strawberries, all tinged with vanilla. The palate is medium-bodied with some sharpness on the attack, very traditional in style with an austere pencil lead finish that contains at least decent freshness. This is a good Lynch-Moussas that needs ageing. Tasted blind at Southwold's annual tasting. Drink between 2020 and 2035.

Le Figaro vins
Wine rated (2015 guide) 94/100
About the wine:
In 2014, the château shifted up a gear with a black color and an expressive blackberry nose. The wine is dense and supple, with velvety substance and fruit, and a pretty finish of blackcurrant and spices.
Jean-Marc Quarin
Wine rated (2019 guide) 92/100
About the wine:
Dark, intense color, still young. Very aromatic, fruity, fine, pure nose, with lovely toasty, creamy notes. Superb. Meticulous in texture from the moment it enters the mouth, then suave and even complex in the middle, the wine evolves noble and melting, with taste and fine tannins. Very good indeed.
