Eck Castle
A medieval castle built in the 11th century, the Eck Castle was named after François d'Eck, who acquired it in 1816. Originally, the château was called "Freytets", then "Fruitets", reflecting the reputation of its fruit production. Successively, William VIII of England, Edward 1st and then the Bishops of Bordeaux built the reputation of the estate's wines.

In 1999, Frédéric Gonet, owner of Champagnes Michel Gonet, acquired the estate and undertook the renovation of the building. The Château d'Eck vineyard was replanted to re-establish the viticultural character of the site.

The Château d'Eck wine range comprises a white Pessac-Léognan and a red Pessac-Léognan.

2*Coup de Coeur Hachette

"Although the château, formerly known as Les Freytets, changed its name in the 19th century, it has retained its medieval appearance, with its high walls and pepper-pot towers. Its viticultural vocation dates back to Duke William VIII of Aquitaine (11th century). Its 2013 (75% Merlot) immediately stands out for its dark, youthful color and concentrated, black-fruit bouquet, underlined by a light woodiness with hints of spice and smoke. The palate is just as seductive: suave on the attack, fleshy and balanced, as complex as the nose (prune, Zan, vanilla), it reveals a rich, greedy sap, well supported by elegant, fat tannins that are beginning to melt".
