2*Coup de Coeur
Hachette
"Although the château, formerly known as Les Freytets, changed its name in the 19th century, it has retained its medieval appearance, with its high walls and pepper-pot towers. Its viticultural vocation dates back to Duke William VIII of Aquitaine (11th century). Its 2013 (75% Merlot) immediately stands out for its dark, youthful color and concentrated, black-fruit bouquet, underlined by a light woodiness with hints of spice and smoke. The palate is just as seductive: suave on the attack, fleshy and balanced, as complex as the nose (prune, Zan, vanilla), it reveals a rich, greedy sap, well supported by elegant, fat tannins that are beginning to melt". About the wine:
Although the château, formerly known as Les Freytets, changed its name in the 19th century, it has retained its medieval appearance, with high walls and pepper-pot towers. Its viticultural vocation dates back to Duke William VIII of Aquitaine (11th century). Its 2013 (75% Merlot) immediately stands out for its dark, youthful color and concentrated, black-fruit bouquet, underlined by a light woodiness with hints of spice and smoke. The palate is equally seductive: suave on the attack, fleshy and well-balanced, as complex as the nose (prune, Zan, vanilla), it reveals a rich, greedy sap, well-supported by elegant, fat tannins that are beginning to melt.
About the domain :
Originally from the Champagne region (Côte des Blancs), the Gonet family has also forged a solid reputation in the Bordeaux region: in Graves-de-Vayres with Châteaux Lesparre (acquired in 1986), Lathibaude and Durand Bayle, all of which are well-established and run organically, as well as in Pessac-Leognan (Haut-Bacalan, Eck, Haut l'Évêque, Saint-Eugène) and regional AOCs (La Chapelle Bordes, La Rose Videau).
