Tasting & pairing
Eye
A cherry-black, bigarreau-type color with garnet highlights
Nose
Elegant and modern at the same time, ripe and discreet aromas, marked by an intense black fruitiness such as blackcurrant, blueberry then liquorice, slightly mentholated and even eucalyptus.
Mouth
An attack with a silky, charming structure, then appears a tannic character on the finish that tightens the wine and carries it in an unusual way. A fine identity for this 2018 vintage

Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2023) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
For a long time, this cru was famous first for its white wine, one of the most complete in Léognan, then also for its red, at its best one of the most brilliant illustrations of the Pessac-Leognan character. The last decade has seen the return of Fieuzal Blanc to its highest level. The new, ultra-efficient winery, with its many small vats of varying capacities, in concrete, stainless steel or wood, now enables director Stephen Carrier to produce haute-couture.

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
This classified growth, located just south of Léognan, produced some of Bordeaux's finest whites in the 1980s. After being sold to Banque Populaire in 1994, Fieuzal declined until 2001. It was in this year that Irish businessman Lochlann Quinn acquired the estate, then hired Champagne's Stephen Carrier as its director. From that moment on, the cru returned to an excellent level, with an obvious search for body, elegance and tannin in the reds, and freshness now with the arrival on the scene of consultant Thomas Duclos. With failures (2013) and great successes (2008), the whites are gradually returning to their full, intense, ageable character.

Note and review by M. GILLES D. Published on 19/04/2023
A very good 2018 coupled with a short ageing period ensure that L'Abeille has a very fluid, easy-going character, underlined by a gentle acidity. They also contribute to the enhanced aromatic expression of this dense, fruity wine, endowed with a suave, melted texture where plums, mirtylles, black cherries and a hint of toast are expressed. The body supports the mid-palate, which lengthens to finish with a little tension, tinged with slightly kirsch notes that add finesse. Good R. Q/P. The fresh, gourmet tone makes this cuvée easy to place, for example with spit-roasted pigeons and spring peas. Score = 4.2.
