"Owned by the Vauthier family, this wine benefits from the same attention as the historic Ausone vineyard. It opens harmoniously with notes of ripe black cherry and cassis, with clean acidity, a hint of chalky minerality and a medium-bodied finish. Enjoy this wine over the next 7-8 years. Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated (2015 guide) 16.5/20 (Reference wine)
Estate rated (2014 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the wine:
Fine, distinguished, elegant and long-lasting, this vintage has distinction.
About the domain :
Moulin Saint-Georges is to Saint-Émilion grands crus what Ausone is to premier crus classés A, especially as it belongs to the Vauthier family. It is managed according to principles similar to those of Ausone. The terroir may not be the same, and the wine may not have the same finesse, but the overall harmony is the same in every vintage. This cru deserves better than its classification.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine rated (2015 guide) 2**Stars (Outstanding wine)
About the wine:
Moulin Saint-Georges extends over 7ha of clay-limestone soil, planted with 80% Merlot. Located opposite Ch. Ausone, it has belonged to the Vauthier family, like its illustrious neighbor, since 1921. The wine opens with greedy notes of ripe fruit, warm wood and sweet spices; with aeration, delicate floral (violet) and peppery scents appear. The palate is dense, powerful yet elegant, supported by a well-tuned liveliness and fine, racy tannins. A wine that's both compact and elegant, generous and fresh, and sure to keep for a long time.
