"A simply stunning exercise in precision and balance! ~ Wine Advocate "

"Deep garnet-purple in color, Pavie Macquin 2017 emerges from the glass with exuberant scents of warm black cherries, blackberry tart and wild blueberry coulis, as well as notes of menthol, licorice, candied violet and charcuterie. Medium-bodied, the palate is an exercise in precision and balance, with a beautiful weave of wonderfully ripe, very fine tannins and bold freshness, a very long, multi-layered finish. Simply stunning" (Wine Advocate 2020) - Delivery in wooden cases possible for orders of 6 bottles of this wine (depending on country and shipping method selected).

Vin noté 17/20 (Vin de référence)

Estate rated (2018 guide) 4*Stars (High-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the wine :

Lovely aromas of black cherry and pepper, enveloping and voluptuous on the palate, with excellent substance, intense tannin and a lovely, sapid finish.

About the domain :

An immediate neighbor of Troplong-Mondot, Pavie-Macquin has just become premier grand cru classé. Stéphane Derenoncourt and Nicolas Thienpont know how to express the best of the terroir while giving it a modern form, adapted to the tastes of today's consumers. Full-bodied and fleshy, the wine of Pavie-Macquin gains in finesse and harmony with each new vintage, with the inimitable truffle flavor and mineral tension typical of the Côte Pavie rim.

Estate rated (2018 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning connoisseurs.)

About the domain :

A new, sober reception room, all in glass, allows tasting with a breathtaking view over the village of Saint-Emilion. Pavie-Macquin retained its rank of premier grand cru classé in the latest Saint-Emilion classification in 2012. A fitting reward for the remarkable work carried out at the château by its manager, Nicolas Thienpont, and his advisor Stéphane Derenoncourt. Since the late 1990s, this duo has transformed the estate, drawing heavily on (non-certified) biodynamic methods. A series of fantastic wines, combining magnificent fruit intensity and great depth on the palate, has crowned this groundbreaking work. These wines differ from their Pavie and Pavie Decesse cousins in that they are both more restrained and more supple, and their juice is deep but still very lively. Pavie-Macquin is a sure bet among wine-lovers, and has not struck a false note in recent years.

Vin noté (guide 2020) 95/100

About the wine :

A sexy, racy wine, Pavie Macquin 2017 is full of personality. A hint of sweet red cherry, plum, rose petal, mint and blood orange infuse this sumptuous, racy Saint-Émilion. A wine of striking purity and total class, Pavie Macquin dazzles. As always, Pavie Macquin is marked by a breathtaking purity of fruit, red fruits, soft contours and silky, voluptuous tannins.

Vin noté (guide 2019) 96/100

About the wine :

Garnet-red with purplish highlights. A complex, multi-faceted bouquet that reveals itself slowly. The first notes are those of ageing. Spicy, fruity notes follow. The attack is inviting and delicious. On the palate, the wine is dense, compact and supported by ample, precise tannins. They have the necessary substance to match the acidity of the structure. A wine that combines charm and character. 2023-2042
