2*Coup de Coeur

Hachette

Note in Guide Hachette: 2**(Remarkable wine) + Coup de Coeur
"An "aristocratic" 2010, with a dark, intense color. The expressive, elegant bouquet of blackcurrant and good staves (coffee, spices) is enhanced by a fine minerality, the expression of a clay-limestone terroir. These qualities are reflected in a powerful, dense, rich and ample palate, supported by firm, tight tannins. Five years of ageing is a minimum, ten years recommended". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2014)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (2021 guide) 1*Star (A serious, recommendable production, in line with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))

About the domain :

The Decoster family, from Clos des Jacobins and La Commanderie in Saint-Émilion, has just acquired this estate on the clay-limestone slope, along with its restaurant, ideally located right in the heart of the vineyard. Château de Candale's 11.5 hectares benefit from a privileged location to the east of the appellation, with prestigious neighbors such as Tertre Rotebœuf and Bellefont-Belcier. The tannins are less severe than in the past, and the potential is obvious.

Guide Hachette des vins

Guide Hachette des vins

Wine rated (guide 2014) 2**Étoiles Coup de Coeur (Outstanding wine)

About the wine:

First harvest and first love for this cooper well known to winegrowers in Bordeaux and Charente. In 2010, Jean-Louis Vicard took over this estate, previously owned by the Adams family. The cru's name is said to derive from Lady Marguerite de Suffolk Kandall, a descendant of Edward III, King of England and Duke of Aquitaine, whose marriage to the Earl of Jean de Foix enabled the latter to assume the title of Earl of Candale. A story that fits in well with this "aristocratic" 2010, with its dark, intense color. The expressive, elegant bouquet of blackcurrant and good staves (coffee, spices) is enhanced by a fine minerality, the expression of a clay-limestone terroir. These qualities are reflected in a powerful, dense, rich and ample palate, supported by firm, tight tannins. Five years cellaring is a minimum, ten years recommended.

drunk in 10/19. A nose full of crunchy, ripe fruit. The palate is in the same vein, with an easily digestible body; a wine at its peak.

Bus between 2016 and 2018. A decent wine but nothing more. I think there are better wines in this price range (€17.90).
