"This wine, aged in concrete vats, has a very pleasant velvety texture that gives Simard incredible charm, with very precise fruit flavors in a medium-bodied wine and a lovely violet finish. " (Le Figaro - Bernard Burtschy) Fresh and very elegant, this Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, owned by Alain Vauthier (Château Ausone), has a silky texture and a delicious juice that calls for consumption!

Bettane & Desseauve
Wine rated 15/20 (Very good wine)
Rated estate (2020 guide) 2 stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more consistent and uniform than the previous one)
About wine:
Elegant curves with well-matured tannins, this wine is ready to drink now.
About the estate:
Pauline and Alain Vauthier, owners and winemakers of the famous Château Ausone, manage this family estate where they have distinguished two cuvées, Simard and Haut-Simard, covering around fifty hectares. The latter, launched in 2007, has become a sure bet. The wines age perfectly in the bottle. We appreciate their suppleness and pleasant tannins. At less than €20, it's hard to beat!

Guide Hachette des vins
Wine noted (guide 2016) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
Rated estate (2020 guide) Award-winning wines (This producer's wines are regularly recognized by the guide)
About wine:
Vinified and aged for eighteen months in concrete vats, Simard's 2012 (35% Cabernet Franc alongside Merlot) displays a fresh bouquet of violets, black fruits, brambles, and spices. This freshness is prolonged by a silky, supple, and refined palate with round tannins, further enhanced by a subtle note of noble vegetal on the finish.
About the estate:
Separate but inseparable: Simard and Haut-Simard were created in 1870 when the vast estate of the Count of Simard was divided by a railway line; 40 hectares for the former, 10 hectares for the latter, acquired in 1954 by Claude Mazière and taken over on his death by his nephew Alain Vauthier (Ausone). The Vauthier family also runs Ch. de Fonbel, not far from Simard.

It's good but not extraordinary; for me, 2012 is not a great year, which must be why there are so many bottles for sale in Bordeaux.
