Château Valandraud
Château Valandraud is the fruit of the hard work of a couple with a passion for wine, Jean-Luc Thunevin and Murielle Andraud. After a successful career as négociants in Saint-Emilion, their ambition was to own their own vineyard and make their own wine. In 1989, they acquired a small 0.6-hectare plot in the Saint-Emilion valley between Pavie-Macquin and La Clotte. The origins of Château Valandraud's name are both geographical (Val: Fongaban valley) and sentimental (Andraud: Murielle's name).

Little by little, Jean-Luc Thunevin and his wife expanded the vineyard, which now covers a total area of 10 hectares, planted on very different soils and locations within the Saint-Emilion appellation. This diversity of soils and grape varieties enables the production of 6 different wines: Château Valandraud, Château Valandraud Casher, Virginie de Valandraud and le 3 de Valandraud, Blanc de Valandraud Nº 1 and Nº 2. Three cuvées are blended with the help of world-renowned oenologist Michel Rolland.

At Château Valandraud, everything is done in a traditional yet modern way: double Guyot pruning, de-stemming, lifting, leaf removal and green harvesting. The grapes are harvested by hand over just a few days, "in the family". The careful attention paid to the vinification and ageing of Château Valandraud wines guarantees Bordeaux connoisseurs one of the finest Saint-Emilion Grand Cru wines.

"Lively but with salinity and mellow red and black fruit, this finishes with a touch of saltiness that gives a mouthwatering finish. This is a beautiful Virginie de Valandraud, the best I've tasted to date. It's so drinkable, it's to be savored and shared with friends." (Decanter 2019) - Attention, very limited quantities!

"This vintage assumes its richness and its virile constitution. But the quest for substance is matched by unstoppable smoothness, luscious notes of perfectly ripe black fruit and great freshness. The tannins are solid, silky and superbly interwoven, revealing great mastery and application. An assertive style for a bottle you can trust". (Guide Hachette des vins Édition 2022)

Château Valandraud - Virginie de Valandraud 2010

Rating: Robert Parker 91-93/100
"Potentially one of the best wines I've tasted from this estate, the 2010 offers notes of crushed stone, blackberry and cassis interwoven with a hint of barrel. Medium to full-bodied and pure with a chocolate/coffee character, it can be enjoyed over the next 15 years." Château Valandraud 2010

Notes : Parker 94-96+/100, Bettane & Desseauve 18,5/20RVF 17,5/20Wine Spectator 95-98/100
"A brilliant essay by Jean-Luc Thunevin (the so-called "bad boy" or bête noire of Bordeaux), the deep purple-colored 2010 Valandraud exhibits notes of cassis, sweet cherry, licorice, incense and nuances of underbrush and oak. This complex, dense Saint-Emilion offers extracted, silky, well-integrated tannins. It should drink well for 20 years.
