Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated 18/20 (Reference wine)
Domaine rated (2022 guide) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the wine:
Further improvement since bottling in terms of clarity and character. One of the densest, most energetic and most promising wines of the vintage. Great future.
About the domain :
This cru, owned by the Triaud family, has joined the best of Saint-Julien in recent vintages, sometimes even surpassing them in quality, thanks to its very old vines averaging 50 years, ideally located in the heart of the village. The wine, which has always been dense, tight and powerful, continues to gain in immediate elegance with each vintage, with a better-integrated woodiness, and always a texture of old vines that makes it equal in this respect to the great Second Classifieds, and even to the First Classifieds. This is one of the most perfect expressions of the appellation's originality, at prices that are still accessible.

Guide Hachette des vins
Domain rated (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the domain :
This ancient cru (17th c.) has seen some dark times, having been totally dispersed following several estates. Henri Martin reconstituted it in 1982. The vineyard covers 17 ha, planted on a fine gravelly terroir resting on a sandy-clay layer. Henri Martin's daughter Françoise and her husband Jean-Louis Triaud, who ran the estate, handed over to their son Jean in 2016.

About the wine:
Saint-Pierre 2015 is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc aged for 14 months in 50% new and 50% one-year-old barrels. Deep garnet-purple in color, it offers expressive blackberry, cassis and stewed black plum on the nose, with suggestions of menthol, rare beef, black olives and tobacco. Medium-bodied and well-structured with ripe, grainy tannins and a lively backbone of vibrant, muscular shape, it finishes long and savory.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Wine rated (2019 guide) 17/20 (Grand vin)
Domaine rated (2022 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the wine:
Behind a woodiness that has not quite melted away, we perceive a wine that is imposing, ripe, ample and generous, yet beautifully balanced. This bottle is built for long ageing.
About the domain :
For a long time, this classified growth was the least known of Saint-Julien's vineyards. It was bought in 1982 by Henri Martin, owner of the famous Cru Bourgeois Château Gloria, who reconstituted the terroir as it existed at the time of classification. His daughter Françoise, her husband and Jean-Louis Triaud, former president of the Girondins de Bordeaux, now assisted by their children, have, with the help of Rémi di Constanzo, the cellar master, transformed the estate in recent years. Equipped with high-performance winemaking equipment, vintage after vintage it seems to be gaining the purity it sometimes lacks.
Wine Enthusiast
Wine rated (2018 guide) 92/100
About the wine:
This wine has a very toasty style, with spices and wood tannins giving an extracted character with a certain bitterness. This contrasts with the developing fruit, and it seems that the wood will integrate over time. Drink from 2025.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 92/100
About the wine:
Lively aromas of currants, mushrooms and dried flowers. Tar. Full-bodied, layered and polished. Shows texture and richness. Juicy and slightly decadent. Drink in 2021.

Wine rated (guide 2020) 17/ 20
About the wine:
Dark color with violet highlights. Lovely nose of red fruit. The wine is supple, charming and silky, with a very elegant mid-palate and real depth. A great, elegant wine that ranks among the best in its appellation.
