Château de Fargues

Château de Fargues
Château de Fargues is a benchmark in the Sauternes appellation. Managed by the Lur-Saluces family, the estate covers 170 hectares, 15 of which are planted with vines. They are rooted in sandy soil resting on a gravelly subsoil, among the highest quality in the Sauternes AOC.

The Château de Fargues vineyard is planted with 80% Semillon and 20% Sauvignon, and its cultivation is carried out with respect for the environment and the vines: manure from the estate, soil maintenance, no chemical weeding, pruning of the vines to optimize yields. These are just some of the practices that make Château de Fargues an essential part of the Sauternes AOC.

Château de Fargues Sauternes 2006

Notes : Robert Parker 94-96, Wine Spectator 97,5, RVF 17,5/20
Former co-owner and winemaker of Yquem, Alexandre de Lur Saluces applies the same methods to de Fargues that made Château d'Yquem such a success. Given its price (a third of that of Yquem) and its strong resemblance to Yquem, De Fargues is clearly a very good deal. Unfortunately, the production is tiny, which means that only a very few wine-lovers can experience the excellence of this wine." (Guide Parker des Vins de Bordeaux)
