Notes : Robert Parker 94-96, Wine Spectator 97,5, RVF 17,5/20
Former co-owner and winemaker of Yquem, Alexandre de Lur Saluces applies the same methods to de Fargues that made Château d'Yquem such a success. Given its price (a third of that of Yquem) and its strong resemblance to Yquem, De Fargues is clearly a very good deal. Unfortunately, the production is tiny, which means that only a very few wine-lovers can experience the excellence of this wine." (Guide Parker des Vins de Bordeaux)

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Estate rated (2012 guide) 6*Stars (Outstanding production)

About the domain :

"Located to the east of Yquem, this sandy-gravel terroir with a clay-gravel subsoil always leads to late ripening. The château and its 15-hectare vineyard belong to Alexandre de Lur-Saluces, formerly owner and manager of Yquem; the wines are thus made according to the same drastic principles that presided over the creation of its mythical "big brother". Aging is long (three years), production is low, but always of the highest quality.

Estate rated (2012 guide) 2*Stars (These very great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the domain :

" " Former co-owner and winemaker of Yquem for more than thirty vintages, Alexandre de Lur Saluces has, since the sale of Château d'Yquem, set about upgrading the production of Château de Fargues, his family's stronghold. He applies exactly the same principles as at Yquem, producing a classic, complete Sauternes that is comparable to the finest, and which enjoys well-deserved esteem among professionals and connoisseurs alike. All the vintages currently on sale are outstanding.
