Expert opinion

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated 16.5/20 (Reference wine)

Estate rated (2017 guide) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

Very intense, with an emphasis on structure. Good aromatic development. Long, warm, minty aftertaste.

About the domain :

This 8.5-hectare estate in Preignac, in the northern Sauternes region, produces some of the most consistent and finest non-classified growths in Sauternes. The owners are the friendly Gonet-Medeville family, who also own the excellent champagnes of the same name, the legendary Château Gilette and Château Respide-Medeville in the Graves appellation.

Gault & Millau Wine Guide

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

Estate rated 3*Stars (very good production)

About the domain :

The Médeville family is a benchmark in Sauternes. Owners of Château Gilette, they have also managed Les Justices for over two centuries. From a less expressive terroir than Gilette, with gravel, sand and clay, the wines of Château Les Justices nonetheless benefit from the Médeville family's experience, and are always consistent and elegant.

Wine rated (2016 guide) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Estate rated (2017 guide) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with good production levels, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the domain :

Julie Médeville and her husband Xavier Gonet, also owners of the legendary Château Gilette, run this pretty cru, well known to Sauternes bargain hunters. The estate produces a deliciously bouqueted Sauternes without excessive liqueur. The wine develops quite rapidly in bottle and, in great vintages, rivals the good classified growths of the appellation. A sure value, its particularity is that it is not aged in barrels.
