Rated (2017 guide) 17.5/20 (benchmark wine)
Domaine rated (2023 guide) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the wine:
Situated just below the Charlemagne retention wall, on the geological fault that cuts through the climate on the Ladoix side, this 3.20-hectare parcel is the last to be harvested. Part of it (0.73 hectare), considered to be faulty, was replanted with Chardonnay in 2008, and enabled the Corton to gain in size and concentration from the 2011 vintage onwards. The 2014 vintage here offers the identity of a great Pinot with lively relief, density, firmness, beautiful depth and great nobility on the palate.
About the domain :
From Les Cazetiers to Bouzeron, this major Beaune trading house, founded in 1731, owns over 142 parcels in 130 hectares of vineyards, including 73 hectares of Premier and Grand Cru. This first-rate winegrowing heritage enables Fréderic Weber, a talented winemaker who was previously in charge of Château de Poncié, to produce around 600,000 bottles out of the total three million produced here each year, with most of the production coming from purchased grapes for the great reds, and carefully selected musts for the non-domain whites. Impressive success in both white and red wines in recent vintages.
