Bouchard Père et Fils, one of Burgundy's leading houses, is a vast estate with 130 hectares of vineyards, built up and cultivated over nine generations. At the heart of the 130-hectare Château de Beaune, a listed historic monument, their wines are precisely crafted to bring out the best in the climates from which they are born.
Established in Burgundy since the 18th century, Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils has been a reference in this prestigious wine region for nine generations.
Bouchard Père et Fils has been owned by the Henriot Champagne House since 1995, and in just a few years it has been able to breathe new life into the expression of the estate's vines, as well as ensuring the coherence of the complementary trading activity.
From start to finish, Maison Bouchard Père et Fils offers an expressive, lively and highly homogeneous range, allowing wine-lovers to immerse themselves in the diversity and richness of its terroirs. An immersion in the very best that Burgundy has to offer!
History of the Bouchard Père et Fils estate
In 1731, draper Michel Bouchard founded the Bouchard Père et Fils wine house. His son Joseph bought the first vines in 1775, located in the Caillerets climat in Volnay. The family estate expanded with the confiscation of nobility and clergy property during the French Revolution, enabling Joseph Bouchard's son, Antoine Philibert Joseph Bouchard, to acquire several plots in Beaune, including the "Beaune Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus", whose name reveals the history of Burgundy winegrowing. In 1820, Bernard Bouchard bought the Château de Beaune, a former royal fortress dating from the 15th century. The wines were successfully exported from 1890 onwards, and the estate continued to expand throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1995, Champagne Henriot became the owner of Bouchard Père et Fils, breathing new life into the estate and its trading activities. The estate is currently managed by Christophe Bouchard, and the cellar master is Philippe Prost.
Geography and characteristics of the estate
The Bouchard Père et Fils estate has the advantage of being present on 450 parcels, spread over 48 km in the Beaune region. Such a wide variety of vineyard land means that the estate's teams have to keep a constant eye on everything, but they are also more secure in the face of often highly localized bad weather, such as thunderstorms, frost or hail. In 2015, Bouchard Père et Fils was awarded the "Haute Valeur Environnementale" (High Environmental Value) label, attesting to the sustainable viticulture approach adopted over the past fifteen years. The vineyard is mainly planted with Chardonnay, as well as Pinot Noir, Aligoté and Gamay. These grape varieties are found in the many appellations produced by Bouchard Père et Fils, including these remarkable Grands Crus: Bâtard-Montrachet, Bonnes-Mares, Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, Chevalier-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte, Clos-de-Bèze, Clos Vougeot, Corton-Charlemagne, Échezeaux, Le Corton, Montrachet.
Introducing the wines of Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils
Since 2005, Bouchard Père et Fils wines have been produced in the Saint-Vincent winery in Savigny-lès-Beaune. Located 5 meters below ground, more than 100 crus are vinified here, then matured in the cellar's 4,000 wooden barrels. The cellar is dug 10 meters below ground, providing perfect conditions for long maturation. Although varied, the wines obtained are all recognizable by their aromatic and gustatory finesse, and have excellent ageing potential.
