Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet

Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet
The appellation d'origine contrôlée Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet has been a Grand Cru appellation in Côte de Beaune, Côte-d'Or, since 1937. On the label, the name Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru must appear immediately below the name of each of these appellations in the same font size. The Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet appellation applies exclusively to the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet.

The Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet AOC enjoys a south-facing exposure of between 240 and 250 meters. In Montrachet, the soils are thin and hard limestone, crossed by a band of reddish marl. The 1.57 hectares of vines classified as Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru only permit a confidential production of around 73 hectolitres per year, making this an extraordinarily rare wine.

The Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru appellation produces exclusively white wines, made from one of Burgundy's flagship grape varieties: Chardonnay. While there are nuances between the different climates, there are common features. Beneath an emerald gold color, yellowing with age, the white wine bouquet suggests butter and warm croissant, fern, dried fruit, spices and honey. Body and bouquet are indistinguishable, as structure and harmony merge into perfect unity. Unctuous and firm, dry and caressing, enveloping and profound, it possesses all the graces of an unyielding character. The exceptional character of wines from the Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet appellation can be fully appreciated thanks to the work of Chanson Père et Fils, Domaine d'Auvenay and Domaine Roger Belland, among others.

Just 1.57 hectares located mid-slope, in the commune of Chassagne, shared by a handful of winemakers who produce around 9,000 bottles of this Grand Cru. Elegance, power, generosity and complexity all come together in this bottle, which will require a little patience to reveal all the magic of its terroir!

Criots-Bâtard is the only Grand Cru in the Montrachets family to be located exclusively in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet. At the foot of the Bâtards and Montrachets, it produces white wines of international renown, recognized as some of the greatest Chardonnays in the world...
