Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet

Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet
The Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) has been a Grand Cru appellation in the Côte de Beaune, in the Côte-d'Or, since 1937. On the label, the name Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru must appear immediately below the name of each of these appellations in identical font size. The Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet appellation concerns exclusively the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet.

The Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet AOC benefits from an east and south exposure between 240 and 250 meters. In Montrachet, the soil is thin on hard limestone, crossed by a strip of reddish marl. The 1.57 hectares of Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru classified vineyards allow only a limited production of around 73 hectoliters per year, making it an extraordinarily rare wine.

The Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru appellation produces exclusively white wines, which are made from one of Burgundy's flagship grape varieties: Chardonnay. Although there are nuances between the different climates, they share certain characteristics. With a golden color and emerald highlights, yellowing with age, the bouquet of white wine suggests butter and warm croissants, ferns, dried fruit, spices, and honey. The body and bouquet are indistinguishable, as structure and harmony blend into perfect unity. Creamy and firm, dry and caressing, enveloping and deep, it possesses all the graces beneath an unyielding character. The exceptional character of the wines of the Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet appellation can be fully appreciated thanks to the work of Chanson Père et Fils, Domaine d'Auvenay and Domaine Roger Belland in particular.
