"This wine is the essence of the Devillard family's five premier crus (they also vinify them separately). It brings out the essential Mercurey: rich, generous and with big, ripe red fruit. The tannins are there to allow this impressive wine to age. Drink from 2022." (Wine Enthusiast 2017). Thanks to the great 2010 vintage, the Devillard family decided to create this grand cuvée called "Les Cinq" by selecting the best parts of the five red Premiers Crus of the estate. Limited quantities available.

Rated 17/20 (Reference wine)

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

Produced from 5 climates, its complexity is perfectly expressed in its elegance, and we can count on its ageing potential.

About the domain :

The Devillard family has expanded beyond the borders of Burgundy with the purchase of Maison Rolet in the Jura. In Mercurey, Château de Chamirey remains the largest of their Burgundy estates, with 37 hectares, including 15 Premier Cru. A special feature of the estate is the table d'hôtes in the heart of the hamlet. A skilled technical team, with the arrival of a new cellar master, Carole Briffox, advised by oenologist Enrico Peyrone, constantly strives to improve work in the vines, in winemaking and in ageing, always in pursuit of excellence. After a particularly successful 2017, the estate has captured the full potential of 2018, its intensity but also its finesse. A step up in our hierarchy could be coming very soon.

About the domain :

Owned by the Devillard family, this emblematic estate developed its winegrowing activity in the 1930s, under the impetus of the Marquis de Jouennes. His heirs, Bertrand Devillard and his children Amaury and Aurore, now manage a vast 37-hectare vineyard.

About the domain :

As I've written before, the Devillard family's Château de Chamirey dominates Mercurey's geography, covering almost 39 hectares. Fortunately, the quality of their wines has made them a more than worthy ambassador for the appellation. Managing such a large area naturally presents challenges, but manager Enrico Peyron is to be congratulated on the progress he has made in adapting a large winery to a small-scale operation. Two harvest teams, for example, now operate independently: one in charge of whites, the other of reds. The 2018 vintage, which I tasted in Beaune, went very well at this address, delivering balanced, elegant reds and charming, expressive whites.

Rated (2018 guide) 15/20 (Good wine)

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the wine:

A blend of five Premier Cru parcels. A complex aromatic arc, the Pinot Noir expresses itself with finesse, delicacy, more infused than extracted. The woodiness doesn't stand out, and that's a good thing. We would have thought, however, that 2015 would have given it a little more density.

About the domain :

This majestic property in the hamlet of Chamirey has belonged to the Devillard family since 1934, and boasts a fine collection of parcels in Mercurey, including six premier crus. There's also a tasting room and a charming, much-appreciated gîte: a swimming pool awaits you at the foot of the Clos du Roi vines. The level of the 2019s is not homogeneous and, alas, follows the pattern of disappointments seen with the 2018 wines last year.
