Bettane & Desseauve
"Pommard Saucilles is immediately round, with a lovely, concentrated structure". (Le Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France 2013 - RVF). A wine of astonishing roundness and smoothness on the palate, with a hint of bitterness on the finish that gives it a lovely freshness. Very tasty!

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated (2013 guide) 15.5/20 (Very good wine)
Domaine rated (2020 guide) 4*Stars (Very high quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the wine:
Beautifully ripe grapes, unctuous, broad, elegant texture, good length. Excellent vinification.
About the domain :
The Verget trading house is part of the Guffens-Heynen "trilogy", where Jean-Marie Guffens, supported by his loyal second-in-command Julien Desplans, applies the recipes tried and tested on his elite domaine since the 1980s, which serve as a worldwide benchmark for Chardonnay. The spearhead here remains the Mâconnais, but purchases from the Chablis region are regular and, depending on the vintage, there are some fine cuvées from the Côte de Beaune. Booking en primeur will be all the more judicious as it may provide an opportunity to buy "terroir-less" wines by the capsule, proving that terroir is not always the deciding factor when it comes to quality. Last but not least, this is the address where you can buy Guffens aux Tourettes and Verget du Sud, at unbeatable price-pleasure ratios, reviewed in the Rhône Valley section of this guide. An exemplary address.

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
Jean-Marie Guffens has put all his talent and exacting standards into this haute-couture negociant founded in 1990. Julien Desplans, a brilliant oenologist trained at Romanée-Conti, has been the master on board at Verget since 2012. Crowned negociant of the year by the RVF jury in 2020, he is unanimously acclaimed for his unrivalled vinifications, highly specialized sourcing choices and precise pressing and ageing. Let's salute these 2019s of great mastery.

I bought 2 bottles of this wine in October 2018. The first bottle opened in November was corked and undrinkable. Fortunately the second opened for Christmas was not, but we found this pommard premier cru short in the mouth and disappointing. All in all, considering the price, a very disappointing purchase. I wrote to Verget with no reply.
