"Exceptional

"A dense, structured young red wine of extraordinary depth and power. Muscular, yet balanced and refined. The bouquet of ripe strawberries and cherries is impressive, with hints of hazelnut and mushroom. But it's the texture that makes it exceptional. This is an indication of the superb structure. Drink after 2025. (James Suckling 2020)

Wine rated (guide 2021) 18/20 (Reference wine)

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the wine:

Strong color, very refined and subtle, high-quality oak, perfectly integrated tannin, another great cuvée not sufficiently recognized by the market, and far superior in the purity of its expression of terroir than other, more sought-after wines.

About the domain :

Founded in 1797, this family-run business has strong links with the Côte de Beaune, where it owns most of its vineyards, culminating in a sumptuous site on the famous Corton hillside. Louis-Fabrice, the eleventh generation of Latour, presides over the family board and has every confidence in his excellent winemakers. The reds have had their fermentation times extended, giving them more flesh and body, while the whites are less reduced and more harmoniously oaked than in the past, with a constant quest for balance that sometimes makes them undervalued in their youth, but they age magnificently. 2017 is in line with the success of 2010 and 2015, in both colors, but we'll trust the cuvées from the estate's vines more than certain purchases, especially the overly diluted whites.

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the domain :

An independent family business, founded in 1797 and run successively by 10 generations of Latour. A key player in Burgundy winegrowing and the largest owner of Grands Crus in the Côte-d'Or (28 ha of its 48 hectares of vineyards). The grapes are vinified in Aloxe-Corton, the family's birthplace, and the company has its own cooperage.

Domaine noté (guide 2022) Recommended (Wine producer recommended by Robert Parker - The Wine Advocate)

About the wine:

The king of the cellar is Latour's 2018 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru Les Quatre Journaux, a full-bodied, enveloping wine that bursts from the glass with aromas of cherry, wild berry, dark chocolate, rich spice and orange peel. Full-bodied, fleshy and muscular, it's supple and ample, finishing long.

About the wine:

Sumptuous black cherry runs tantalizingly through the nose of this wine, before disappearing again. The palate offers a firm yet supple framework for all this ripe, unctuous, aromatic fruit. Compact, deep and structured, the velvety body is also muscular. Energy pulsates beneath the surface. For the moment, the wine is difficult to master, but it's sure to relax and provide pleasure. Drink between 2030 and 2050.
