" This opulent red shows great depth here, with notes of spice, cherry, blackberry, coffee and minerals. The attack overflows with black fruits, the wine then becomes more structured and evolves towards a persistent finish, where dusty tannins reign. Best from 2023 to 2035" (Wine Spectator) A world-renowned appellation, this Vosne Romanée is, of course, a wine for laying down, balancing richness and tannins, texture and architecture under a lively attack. It may seem austere in its youth, but Vosne-Romanée needs to develop its structure and fatness in bottle.

Winemaking

Before alcoholic fermentation, pre-fermentation cold maceration lasts 4 to 6 days. The grapes are destemmed beforehand. Maceration lasts 15 days, during which time the cap is punched down without pumping over. The number and intensity of punchings are the variables that determine tannin concentration, fragrance and color. Alcoholic fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts.

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (guide 2021) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)

About the domain :

Run by the Devillard family, who also own Château de Chamirey in Mercurey, the vineyard is located on remarkable terroirs in the south of the Côte de Nuits, and its production is vinified in the spirit of modern wines, seeking high grape maturity and deep, voluptuous textures. The results have been convincing in recent years, starting with the communal appellations, with very fine juices when we knew them to be rather solid. All the possible fullness of 2018 has been captured here, and these will be wines for laying down, or even very long laying down for the nuits and the échezeaux. Also a lovely red Burgundy.

About the wine:

Barrel sample. A nose of leather with elegant aromas of sweet black fruit. Abundant, firm tannins. Needs a little time to tame the wine, as the oak is still somewhat present at the moment (at least on this sample). The fruit is generous and the acidity provides structure and balance. Drink between 2024 and 2034.
