Vosne-Romanée
Grand crus that make dreams come true
In the commune of Vosne-Romanéelocated on the part of the vineyard known as the Côte de NuitsThere are several climats classified as Grand Cru, the highest and rarest level of appellation for Burgundy wines. The names of these climats are akin to myth: Romanée-Conti, Romanée-Saint-Vivant, Richebourg, to name but a few. The wines produced from these vineyards, all red, are among the most renowned in Burgundy and the world over. Bottles, produced in small batches, sometimes fetch several thousand euros. For wine lovers, Vosne-Romanée is a pilgrimage destination. It was also the home of Henri Jayer, a winemaker who, until his death in the mid-1980s, revolutionized winemaking methods in Burgundy, producing cuvées of unrivalled texture and depth. He was also the man who, in the commune of Vosne-Romanée, bought up what was then a simple wasteland and turned it into a parcel of vines known as Cros Parantoux, now classified as a premier cru, another mythical and rare wine that sells for gold. In those days, Henri Jayer used dynamite to clear the land, because he had such faith in the terroir.A terroir approaching perfection

The soils are predominantly limestone, with clayey marls, in successive strata that provide Pinot Noir, the king of grape varieties for Vosne-Romanée. red Burgundy winesA unique terrain for expression. This geology, coupled with sunny exposure and temperate to slightly continental climatic conditions, gives rise to grapes that develop into small, highly concentrated berries with a perfect balance between acidity and sugar levels. The Vosne-Romanée terroir may be described as blessed by the gods, but it's more likely to be described as a true gift of nature sparingly exploited by man, to the delight of wine lovers.Complex, delicate wines

17/20 Jancis Robinson
" This opulent red shows great depth here, with notes of spice, cherry, blackberry, coffee and minerals. The attack overflows with black fruits, the wine then becomes more structured and evolves towards a persistent finish, where dusty tannins reign. Best from 2023 to 2035" (Wine Spectator) A world-renowned appellation, this Vosne Romanée is, of course, a wine for laying down, balancing richness and tannins, texture and architecture under a lively attack. It may seem austere in its youth, but Vosne-Romanée needs to develop its structure and fatness in bottle.

"The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village has a delicious, perfumed bouquet, the 25% new barrel perfectly integrated and letting the aromas of crushed strawberry and violet blossom. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a drop of acidity, nicely proportioned in the mouth with a suprisingly mineral-rich finish. A vintage to watch, better than the 2015. " (Wine Advocate 2017 - Robert Parker)
