Duval-Leroy Champagne

The Duval-Leroy Champagne House, located in Vertus, is a family business founded in 1859. Today, it is presided over by Carol Duval-Leroy, who continues to lead this venerable house ever further in its pursuit of quality and excellence.

The Duval-Leroy Champagne House has a vineyard covering 200 hectares, divided between Chardonnay, which dominates, Pinot Noir, and Meunier. The grapes are harvested by hand and transported to the House's presses, where they are joined by grapes purchased from other winegrowers. The Duval-Leroy Champagne House also has modern winemaking facilities that are adapted to the specific characteristics of the cuvées produced.

Duval-Leroy Champagnes are characterized by their finesse, lightness, and elegance, the result of a unique expertise that the house jealously guards and which only the cellar master oversees, ensuring that the wines maintain consistent quality and uniformity from year to year.

Duval Leroy champagne is one of the few major houses that has retained its family character. After 160 years of existence, it is now a woman, Carol Duval-Leroy, who runs the Duval-Leroy House with her three sons. With the help of another cellar master, Duval champagne has resolutely embarked on the path of innovation by moving towards Organic sustainable viticulture.

The situation of Champagne Duval-Leroy

The Duval-Leroy estate is located in Vertus, a village at the edge of the Côte des Blancs. Most of the estate's 200 hectares are located here, in the Marne department, southeast of Epernay.

The estate's vineyards are mainly planted with Chardonnay, the predominant grape variety in the Côte des Blancs. It covers twelve communes, just north of Mont Aimé. The main communes are: Cuis, Avize, Cramant, Oger, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, and Vertus. Alongside Chardonnay, there are also vineyards planted with Pinot Noir and Meunier grapes of the same color, but in smaller quantities.

The enrichment of Duval-Leroy champagne

It is clear that the enrichment of Duval Leroy Champagne lies in how Carol Duval-Leroy's three sons manage it in the future. But where men invest themselves, it is still necessary to enhance the existing terroir. They must respect the soil they have inherited in order to bring out the best of its natural qualities. Over a 20 km stretch, Chardonnay gives its best, bringing a distinctive mineral character and original finesse to blanc de blanc champagnes. It is the chalky limestone that imparts its virtues to the grapes growing on its soil. All the great houses are present on this exceptional terroir.

The future of Champagne Duval-Leroy

Under the demanding and wise leadership of Carol Duval Leroy, the Duval-Leroy house can legitimately look to the future with confidence. Carol Duval-Leroy is currently the only woman to have been appointed President of the Champagne Winegrowers' Association.

And this former Vertus estate continues to dominate the top spots in various sectors.
