Bodegas Casajus
Bodegas Casajus was founded by José Alberto Calvo Casajus, a native of the small village of Quintana del Pidio in the northern hills of the Duero valley, home to the Ribera del Duero appellation.

The vineyards of Bodegas CasajusThe Tinta del País vineyard, protected to the north by small mountains covered in pine and oak, boasts 20 hectares of Tinta del País (Tempranillo) vines over 50 years old. The region's specific climate ensures the best balance between acidity and fruitiness in the wines produced. In addition, cultivation techniques, vinification and ageing are the fruit of a rigorous family heritage.

A passionate descendant of a family of winemakers, José Alberto Calvo Casajus decided to make his own wines, intervening at every stage of the production process. Bodegas Casajus is today a modern estate, equipped with the most advanced technology, but in close touch with the spirit of family tradition so typical of the region.

"A layered red with notes of plum, blue fruit, chocolate and lavender. Full-bodied, with tight, polished tannins that give the wine its lovely structure. Long and persistent. Still a little closed. Will be even better after 2022. (James Suckling 2020)

"This Valpidio 2014 shows the style typical of Tempranillo with nicely integrated oak. It has aromas of aromatic herbs and a soft palate with a nice texture, the flavors are not very complex but quite pleasant." (Wine Advocate 2017 - Robert Parker) Excellent value for money!

"The Antiguos Viñedos (old vineyards) show superb freshness for a warmer, riper vintage like 2012, resulting in a livelier wine than expected. The cooler Quintana de Pidio zone and the old vines bring a very nice balance to the vintage conditions, and the naturally balanced juiciness benefits very well from the wood ageing. There's balance, concentration and intensity, fine tannins and sufficient freshness. A classic Ribera." (Wine Advocate 2015 - Robert Parker)

"Nic 2011 expresses intense balsamic aromas, notes of incense, Cuban cigars, noble woods and a core of ripe fruit without the slightest excess or overripeness. It does not express the warmth of the vintage. The ageing is rather respectful of the fruit, giving the wine a certain restraint and elegance. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with very fine tannins, superb balance, excellent length and surprising freshness for this year. Although it can be enjoyed now, it should also improve and develop more complexity with time." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker) Year on year progress!
