Bodega Exopto
He made his first wine in Virginia, at Rockbridge Vineyard alongside Shepherd Rouse, before working as an oenologist in Bordeaux. His values are respect, balance, patience and tranquility. Bodega Exopto 's vineyards are located in the municipalities of Laguardia (Rioja Alavesa) and Abalos (Rioja Alta), as well as in Rioja Baja. The age of the vines varies from 20 to 90 years. The agilo-calcareous soils of Rioja Alavesa bring strength, structure and color to the wine. Rioja Alta soils bring minerality and fruit. The blend of the two gives the wine a rich, balanced nature.
The originality of Tom's wines also lies in the systematic blending of three varieties: Tempranillo, Graciano and Grenache. The wines of Bodega Exopto reflect all the strength and richness of Rioja, with a Bordeaux-style blend of finesse and elegance. Robert Parker has rightly declared that Bodega Exopto 's three new cuvées are all extraordinary. Exopto's B.B. (Big Bang) is a veritable bomb in terms of value for money.

"Exopto's very young red 2021 Bozeto [...] seems very balanced, with good ripeness (14.5%), showing the Garnacha and the more austere Graciano with beautiful fruit and freshness. This is a very successful wine, with a complexity and depth that exceed its price. It was aged in a combination of concrete and oak containers for around six months. An excellent bargain in one of the best vintages for this wine." (Wine Advocate 2022)

"Plums, stones, peppercorns, tobacco and roasted herbs on the nose. Full-bodied, with fine-grained tannins. Supple, peppery and racy finish. Tempranillo, Graciano and Garnacha. Drink now or cellar. (James Suckling 2022)

Horizonte de Exopto white offers freshness, liveliness and great aromatic complexity. This blend is made from white grape vines planted in the midst of red vineyards, giving it all its charm and grandeur. A gastronomic white with tension, we love it!

An expressive, aromatic and complex cuvée! Filled with flavors of black pepper, morello cherry and garrigue, Horizonte de Exopto is always a great success, with its controlled concentration, drinkability and lightness. An astonishing and surprising cuvée!

91/100 Robert Parker
Bozeto is a dynamic, resolutely modern cuvée with lots of freshness. Juicy, fluid and fruity, the palate exhales aromas of cherry, strawberry and redcurrant, and the final bouquet offers menthol and cocoa notes.

"The 2017 Horizonte de Exopto red is [...] surprisingly fresh, expressive and aromatic with a touch of black pepper, perhaps because there are more grapes from higher altitude vines that didn't suffer from the frost, and the result could be fresher than some 2016 or 2015 wines. The switch to larger barrels and less oak seems to have paid off with better wood integration and additional nuance. A great success for this vintage and a nice surprise: lighter and less concentrated, but more drinkability." (Wine Advocate 2019 - Luis Gutiérrez) A beautiful Rioja on freshness, amazing!

"The just-bottled 2018 Bozeto d'Exopto red is a superb, fruit-driven blend of 50% Tempranillo and 40% Garnacha, with a pinch of 10% Graciano to add freshness. De-stemmed but not crushed grapes were fermented in steel, concrete and oak containers with indigenous yeasts and aged for six months, the Garnacha in concrete, the Tempranillo in oak barrels and a blend of Tempranillo and Graciano in well-aged barrels. [...] This juicy, fruity young red is aromatic and more fluid, fresher and more accessible. The palate is fresh and light, a wine to be savored without moderation" (Wine Advocate 2019 - Luis Gutiérrez)
Bodegas Exopto - Exopto 2016
93/100 Robert Parker
"[...] Although the year could have been cooler, this 2016 seems riper than the 2017s, a constant here, and in this case, it's thanks to Rioja Baja Graciano. There are more Mediterranean herbal notes in this vintage, and the wine is quite rich and full-bodied but with freshness, life and length. There's also less oak than in previous vintages." (Wine Advocate 2019 - Luis Gutiérrez) A modern, tasty wine.
Bodegas Exopto - Horizonte de Exopto 2017

93/100 Robert Parker
"[...] Produced in a slightly oxidizing manner, this is mainly Viura and 10% Garnacha Blanca and Malvasía Riojana, fermented together in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and finished in barrels. [...] The novelty is the addition of the concrete egg, which seems to have added freshness, tension and aromatic complexity. In fact, the wine reminds me of a fresh vintage (and it wasn't), and the wine is fresh and has nice acidity. It's a brighter white, this time without malolactic and made from grapes harvested earlier, not only because of the rapid ripening, but also to achieve extra freshness. A clear step forward. " (Wine Advocate 2019 - Luis Gutiérrez) A gastronomic white with tension, we love it!

15/20 RVF (G&M)
"Sensational, Bozeto 2013 is a blend of Grenache, Tempranillo and Graciano (a singular blend for Rioja), from an organic vineyard planted in 1980. Aged in French oak barrels for nine months, it offers beautiful notes of black cherry and blackcurrant mixed with aromas of strawberry jam, cedar wood and graphite. Medium to full-bodied, loaded with fruit and nuances of spice box and tobacco, this is a rich, round wine with an opulent mouthfeel. A superb, fleshy, fruity red". (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)
Dominio Del Viento - Rioja Crianza 2011
3.8/5 (13 reviews)
90/100 Robert Parker
"An exceptional Rioja! Dominio del Viento 2011 is composed of Tempranillo and Graciant aged 12 months in French oak barrels. Enticing notes of pencil shavings, blackcurrant, licorice and a touch of barbecue smoke emerge from this medium-bodied, fruity, elegant red with impressive purity, texture and depth. The wine's overall balance and evolved style suggest drinking it now and over the next 5-6 years." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker)
Bodegas Exopto - Horizonte de Exopto 2012

Score: Robert Parker 91/100
"The Horizonte de Exopto 2012 white is produced from white grape varieties planted in old vineyards. It is a blend of Viura, Garnacha Blanca and Malvasia Riojana vinified together. Although young, it has the intensity of old vines and the complexity of a varied blend. Notes of fennel, white flower, yellow peach and a salty nuance make this a very attractive wine. I really like this white, and I think it will evolve well in bottle. Drink now through 2018." (Wine Advocate - Robert Parker )

A true concentrate of pleasure, with exceptional value for money, this Rioja is the product of a Frenchman, Tom Puyaubert, who has been living in Spain for 10 years. A wine that reflects the strength and richness of Rioja, with its blend of Grenache, Tempranillo and Graciano. Robert Parker says of this winemaker "the three new Exopto cuvées are all extraordinary...".
Bodegas Exopto - Horizonte de Exopto 2008

Rating: Robert Parker 90+/100
"Horizonte de Exopto 2008 is composed of 65% Tempranillo, 20% Graziano and 15% Grenache aged 10 months in French and American oak barrels. A deep ruby color, it offers notes of Asian spice, incense, mineral, leather, a hint of balsamic and an assortment of black fruits. Spicy, savory and very complex on the palate..." (Robert Parker - Wine Advocate June 2011). A must-have!
