Tenuta delle Terre Nere
Tenuta delle Terre Nere is the fruit of over 30 years' work and passion for the wine industry. Managed by Marco and Sebastian de Grazia, the Sicilian estate lies on the northern slopes of the Etna volcano between Randazzo and Castiglione di Sicilia.

This extraordinary geographical location enables the De Grazia brothers to produce grape varieties that best express their terroir. The cultivation methods used are highly respectful of the environment and the vines. In 2010, Tenute delle Terre Nere obtained organic certification for its entire vineyard after 8 years of organic practices.

Tenute delle Terre Nere covers 27 hectares divided into 10 parcels. With the exception of the 6 hectares of recently planted vines, this vineyard is made up of old vines between 50 and 100 years old, and even older for the 0.80-hectare parcel whose vines survived the Phylloxera (130-140 years old).

"The similarity of the packaging to Burgundy is striking. The nose expresses notes of exotic spices, yellow fruit, smoke and lemon. The palate is more neutral and restrained. A true pleasure wine." (Jancis Robinson 2015)

Only two parcels on the estate have resisted the Phylloxera pest. These 130-year-old vines produce a discreet wine with complex aromas of wild flowers, red fruit and noble spices. The elegance of this wine lies in the harmony between concentration, balance and length. A very fine cuvée to be decanted before serving.

(2013 vintage notes)

Produced from the estate's young vines, Etna rouge is distinguished by its fringiness, elegance and well-balanced tannins. A gourmet wine, with fresh red fruit, to match all your dishes.

"Bright red. On the nose, notes of earth and licorice. This is followed by a more fruity, large-scale palate of ripe red fruit and botanical herbs, with a long, lively, fleshy finish. Silky tannins add structure to these rich red fruit flavors. This is always the first vintage to be harvested, about two weeks before Guardiola, which is 350 meters higher." (Vinous 2015)

"When we taste the Guardiola 2013, our thoughts wander to the immense beauty of this vineyard. It's probably one of the most beautiful sites we've had the honor of visiting in Italy. This otherworldly beauty - with volcanic stone walls, pre-phylloxera vines, cherry trees and wildflowers with little shrines to Madonna poking their noses into the vines - is etched in our memories. Guardiola is one of my favorite Etnans. It expresses itself in a firm, sophisticated way, with notes of blackcurrant supported by a beautiful minerality and hints of dried flowers. The tannins are firm and drying. This vintage far exceeds our expectations." (Wine Advocate 2015 - Robert Parker)

"Santo Spirito 2013 is an abundant and enriched expression of Etna's volcanic slopes. Santo Spirito is located in Passopisciaro, in the heart of Etna's best production areas. This sublime wine has a dark garnet color, with purple and ruby highlights. Crisp notes of wild berries, cranberry, red rose and black stone characterize the texture on the palate. 2013 was a difficult vintage, with slow and heterogeneous ripening of the grapes for many producers. Marco De Grazia naturally controlled the harvest date to ensure that his fruit was picked at optimum ripeness." (Wine Advocate 2015 - Robert Parker)

"The 2013 Calderara Sottana presents a different personality from the estate's other cuvées. It offers a more balsamic style with wild fennel, rosemary, black fruits and scorched earth. On the palate, it's the most ethereal and hardest to pin down, as the aromas are constantly evolving. Attractive fruit notes complete the framework. Despite the sublime complexity on the nose, the wine is more immediate and direct on the palate. Lively berry fruit is followed by smoky tannins. This vintage should age very well."
