"A light ruby Trousseau with orange highlights, well in keeping with the appellation. Slightly spicy and delicately vanilla-flavored, the nose distils a lovely fruity background, discreet but very harmonious. Supple and fresh, the attack gives way to a palate of silky tannins, with plenty of freshness, red berries and spices. A perfectly balanced wine ". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022)

Domain Rolet
Arbois
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domain rated 2*Stars (A serious and recommendable production, but a little more regular and homogeneous than the previous one)
About the domain :
It is one of the largest domains in the Jura, with 65 hectares of vines spread over the Arbois, Côtes du Jura and L'Étoile appellations. The range, which includes numerous cuvées of all types of wine (ouillés, sous voile, crémants, macvin, paille and jaune), with a majority of whites, was reputed to be complete but uneven, with some fine nuggets in the older vintages. The wines have regained a certain unity of quality.

Rated (guide 2021) 89/100 (Very good wine)
About the wine:
Of the two reds, I found more varietal typicity in the 2018 Trousseau, which is primary and fruity in nature with notes of wild berries (strawberries) and a little spice (50% of the volume was aged in used oak and the rest in vats until bottling) and earth. Contained ripeness, moderate alcohol and fine tannins.

Wine rated (2022 guide) 89/100
Domain rated (guide 2023) Selected (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the domains that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the wine:
Lively, lively tannins, still narrow.
About the domain :
The Arbois appellation owes much to Domaine Rolet. Although over the years it has managed to preserve its own style, combining classic Jura craftsmanship with technical mastery, the domaine has not always achieved homogeneity across its range. Wines characterized by ageing under sail (in particular Arbois yellow wines) are the most consistently successful. In spring 2018, the estate and its vineyards were acquired by the Devillard family, well known for their Burgundy production, along with other shareholders. Under the aegis of Cédric Ducoté the latest vintages show increased stylistic assurance and more consistency, we are delighted.

About the wine:
In this ripe, juicy wine, fine tannins interwoven with fragrant red fruit still come through with acidity and structured fruitiness. Drink from 2021.

For a layman when it comes to Jura wines, and even more so when it comes to Trousseau, this Rolet is no less interesting, even a little disconcerting. First by its dark ruby-amber color. Then for the intensity of its juice, dominated by redcurrant and raspberry, and the finesse of its silky tannins. All this leaves a lasting impression of freshness, with fine peppery notes and a touch of humus. Decanting necessary to avoid the pearling effect before testing with a Jura galette with Morteau sausage. Score = 3.8.

Trousseau is the only red wine I like among the Jura wines.
