success story

"A beautifully crafted Château-Chalon!"

"[...] The 2015 Château Chalon is rounder and smoother than the 2013; they harvested healthy grapes and everything went smoothly. It can of course be enjoyed now, but it is better to keep the bottles (they say six years in barrels plus six years in bottles before considering drinking it...), and it will keep for a long, long time. Only 4,000 bottles produced. Since 2011, all harvests have been fairly low, so there are very few bottles..." (Wine Advocate 2023). • Please note, very limited quantities!

About wine:

Unfortunately, they had no more 2014, so we had to switch from the 2013 to the 2015 Château Chalon, their flagship wine. 2015 was a hot year and the harvest took place on September 15, almost a month earlier than in 2013. The 2015 Château Chalon is rounder and more supple than the 2013; they harvested healthy grapes and everything went smoothly. It can of course be enjoyed now, but it is better to keep the bottles (they say six years in barrel plus six years in bottle before considering drinking it...), and it will keep for a long, long time. Only 4,000 bottles were produced. Since 2011, all the harvests have been fairly low, so there are very few bottles available...

Rated estate (2022 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)

About the estate:

Jean Macle, a prominent figure in the Jura wine region, passed away this winter. Tasting a Château-Chalon from the estate that bears his name is now more than ever a moment of particular intensity. A true "yellow" wine, straightforward, sharp, harmonious, and easy to drink, whose complexity comes not only from aging under a yeast veil. Now in the hands of Laurent Macle, this estate has produced vintages with such consistency and identity that it commands unanimous respect. Founded in 1850, it owns some of the steepest terroirs in the region, with slopes reaching up to 50%. The decision to plant vines on land that no one else wanted to venture onto at the time highlights the determination and passion of this winegrowing family, which has become synonymous with the Château-Chalon vineyard.
