Wine rated (2022 guide) 93/100

Domain rated (guide 2025) Selected (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the domains that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the wine:

Aksou is clearly marked by a Syrah with finely larded notes, supported by the black fruit of the Grenache and that touch of graphite characteristic of schist.

About the domain :

Adèle and Olivier met in Montpellier before working at various domains vineyards in Collioure. The call of the schist led them to Faugères, more precisely to Fos, where they found islands of old vines. In less than 10 years, they have become the new face of the appellation, and today offer a frank and fair definition of schist terroirs. Their vines, on average over 30 years old, nestle between 200 and 400 meters above sea level. The different styles of wine are the result of assiduous parcel-by-parcel work, and an organic conversion has been initiated for 2019. With the 2022 harvest, the couple have taken on a new location: a cellar on the road to Pézenas, complemented by a very comfortable gîte.

3.7. Spicy nose. Very fruity on the palate, quite rich but well balanced. Very good Q/P ratio.

Syrah on schist...a marvel. Smoky/lardy, spicy, round, powerful but not overpowering. Top-notch!

I'm a little disappointed by this Faugères, which is positioned more in the "vin de copains" category and seems expensive to me. At a similar price, I much prefer "Nos Racines" from La Liquière, with its deeper, more intensely concentrated identity, and even more so "Terroirs d'altitude" from Château de Ciffre, bubbling with fruit and great gourmandise. That said, it's important to encourage young winemakers with emerging talent, especially as Aksou remains a pleasant terroir wine with spicy, toasty aromas and notes of licorice and black olives on a palate that flows to a fresh, mineral finish. Score = 3.5. Pair at 18° with a rack of glazed pork with braised endives.
