Oupia Castle
Château d'Oupia, a 12th-century building in the heart of the Minervois region, is a family estate now run by Marie-Pierre Iche. Purchased in 1860, Château d'Oupia has continued to grow and invest in vines and wine. Its first award came from the Department of Agriculture in 1908.

In 1969, André ICHE took charge of the estate and began renovating the vineyard, incorporating new grape varieties well suited to the terroir, while retaining the oldest Carignan vines. André planted his first Syrahs in 1975, opened a sales cellar in 1980, and in 1985 began his first barrel-ageing with the launch of the Les Barons cuvée. This was the start of a string of awards, with other cuvées confirming his reputation: Nobilis, Oppius, Emérantine. Part of the Château d'Oupia vineyard is located in La Caunette, and the vinification takes place in Oupia.

After completing her studies in 1996, Marie-Pierre Iche decided to stay on the estate, which today covers 63 ha, divided between AOC Minervois (37 ha) and Vin de Pays de l'Hérault (26 ha).

2*Étoiles Hachette

" An enchanting red combining Syrah, Carignan and Grenache, macerated for a very long time in the cellar. The nose, slow to open up, first bears the imprint of the barrel with its roasted and smoky notes, then lets black fruit, garrigue and undergrowth scents blossom. The palate is imposing in its fullness and concentration, perfectly framed by powerful yet remarkably extracted tannins. A long finish of black fruits and spices speaks volumes about the potential of this fine red". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2020) Great ageing potential!

Oppius is the estate's grand cuvée, predominantly Syrah. Savory and racy, it opens with an intense, fragrant nose of black fruits and chocolate. The palate is powerful and concentrated, with hints of leather. The tannins are full-bodied but silky to the touch. Mentholated freshness harmoniously revives the whole. A racy Minervois!
