Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domain rated (guide 2024) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
On his granite terroirs, Romain Payre has become one of the best ambassadors of Côte Roannaise Gamay, where he has excelled for several vintages now on his 21-hectare estate. He also knows how to give his wines from the Pays d'Urfé a tasty shape. The cuvée référence can be drunk young and fruity. The clos-du-puy and intégrale cuvées are semi-preserved, made from vines over 80 years old. A recommendable and reliable domaine, whatever the cuvée.

About the domain :
In 2017, Romain Paire took over the family estate, which he had run since 2005 with his parents Georges and Denise. Farmed on a mixed crop-livestock basis, the property, which comprises 21 ha of vines, has been managed organically and biodynamically since 2010. One of the Côte-Roannais appellation's best-known names.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (2024 guide) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winegrowers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
The Côte Roannaise appellation stretches across the foothills of the Massif Central, between 400 and 500 meters above sea level. The vineyards are planted on sandy soils of granite origin. The local red grape variety is Gamay Saint-Romain, found only here. The white, IGP d'Urfé, comes from chardonnay and sometimes pinot gris. Georges Paire, from a family of livestock farmers, began planting his vineyard in the 1970s. In 2005, his son Romain joined him and the planting continued, the winery was modernized and the estate turned to organic farming. Today, the estate still keeps a small herd of Limousin cows. We appreciate the care, sincerity and quality of these wines. A modern, dynamic incarnation of the appellation.
