Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Rated wine (guide 2025) 90/100
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
Mathieu Baudry has taken the full measure of this exemplary Cravant estate, which also grows black melanosporum truffles. His father Bernard continues to support him in the vineyard and cellar. They have built their reputation on their Cabernet Franc wines, which are long-lasting, dense and sappy, on a 30-hectare estate that is farmed organically. The cuvées take their names from the terroirs that bear them, and are still affordable. Les-granges blends grapes from gravel and clay soils to produce a supple, fresh wine, while les-grézeaux, from clay-siliceous soils, boasts fine finesse and structure that will stand the test of time. Deeper, la-croix-boissée offers a wine with a tannic core provided by clay-limestone soils. The Clos Guillot vines produce a full-bodied, suave, fleshy wine designed for long ageing. A superb address that has done well for the 2019 vintage.

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (guide 2025) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
Bernard Baudry strives for the silky, civilized dimension of Chinon wines, while remaining as close as possible to their terroir expression. This approach, which he pursues with his son Matthieu, is coupled with organic certification and inspires them to plant ungrafted, free-standing vines over the last 10 years (following Charles Joguet's 1980s plantings), as well as planting on forgotten terroirs, such as the excellent Clos Guillot. La Croix Boissée (Cravant-les-Coteaux clay-limestone terroir), built for ageing, has an extra velvety, sometimes sweetness in hot years, which could delight Saint-Émilion enthusiasts. This cuvée naturally takes the lead among the great reds of Touraine, but beware of the animality found in certain cuvées.
