" Gem the Loire region, where minerality meets fresh, delicate fruit."
"Aged in wooden and concrete vats, this cuvée is discreetly fruity on the nose, more intense on the palate, round and rich without being heavy, balanced by a delicate acidity and supported by refined tannins." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2024)

Bettane & Desseauve
Rated estate (2026 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)
About the estate:
Romain Payre has become one of the finest ambassadors for Gamay from the Côte Roannaise, where he has excelled for several vintages on his 21-hectare estate. The benchmark cuvée is best enjoyed young, while the Clos Du Puy and Intégrale cuvées are medium-aged wines made from vines over 80 years old. This is a highly recommended and reliable estate, whatever the cuvée.

About the estate:
Living with his parents Georges and Denise since 2005, Romain Paire took over this long-established family estate in 2017. Founded in 1610 in the commune of Villemontais, in the southern part of the appellation, the estate has been farmed using mixed farming and livestock methods (beef cattle) since 2010. The 23 hectares of vines are organically and biodynamically farmed. Rated estate (2026 guide) 1*Star (Up-and-coming stars or quality winemakers producing good-quality wines; you won't be disappointed when tasting the wines from these estates)
About the estate:
Georges Paire, who comes from a family of farmers, began planting his vineyard in the 1970s. In 2005, his son Romain joined him and the plantations continued, the winery was modernized, and the estate turned to organic farming. Today, the estate still has a small herd of Limousin cows. We appreciate these carefully crafted, sincere wines: a modern and dynamic embodiment of the appellation.
James Suckling
Wine rated (2024 guide) 92/100
About wine:
Delicious, immaculate red with aromas of wild strawberries, frozen raspberries, cherries, and sweet spices. Medium-bodied with lively acidity. Agile, lively, and crisp with a succulent core of tart cherries, wild strawberries, and a peppery finish with good length. Gamay. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. Ready to drink or cellar.

Note and opinion by Mr. FRANCOIS I. Published on 11/10/2024
Initially slightly animalistic on the nose, then blackberry, violet, and a slight smoky note. On the palate, the attack is marked by sharp acidity, firm mellowness, melted tannins, and fairly generous alcohol. It's fine, but nothing more. I find the wine a little harsh and not very long (pai 2). Perhaps it needs a little time to develop.

Note and opinion by Mr. GILLES D. Published on 10/13/2023
Another rustic expression of Gamay, without embellishment or frills. A disconcerting intensity of freshness and fruitiness with spicy and tangy red berries, enhanced by violet, jostles on the palate with great lightness and beautiful fluidity. The easy-drinking character of this cuvée is further accentuated by the tannic structure with marked minerality, which also enlivens the lingering, indulgent finish. It is easy to drink, crisp and, what's more, affordable. It might be interesting to wait another year to see how the wine evolves and whether it gains in suppleness, given that it has considerable aging potential. But already appealing today, this lively and alert entry-level wine was reserved, slightly chilled, for a table of happy friends with a platter of Savoyard cured meats and a selection of Savoyard hard cheeses. Rating = 3.9.

Explosive nose and a real fruity explosion on the palate. Beautifully balanced with great freshness. Perfect as an aperitif with a charcuterie platter.
