" Gem de Loire where minerality rubs shoulders with fresh, delicate fruit "
"Aged in wooden and concrete vats for this discreetly fruity cuvée on the nose, more intense on the palate, round, fat without heaviness, balanced by fine acidity and underpinned by refined tannins." (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2024)

Côte Roannaise
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2025) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)
About the domain :
Romain Payre has become one of the best ambassadors of Côte Roannaise Gamay, where he has excelled for several vintages now on his 21-hectare estate. The reference cuvée is best drunk young. The semi-aged Clos Du Puy and Intégrale cuvées are made from vines over 80 years old. A recommendable and reliable domaine, whatever the cuvée.
Guide Hachette des vins
Wine rated (guide 2024) 1*Star (Very successful wine)
Domaine noté (guide 2025) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the wine:
Matured in wooden and concrete vats, this cuvée is discreetly fruity on the nose, more intense on the palate, round, fat without heaviness, balanced by fine acidity and underpinned by refined tannins.
About the domain :
In 2017, Romain Paire took over the family estate, which he had run since 2005 with his parents Georges and Denise. The property, which comprises 21 ha of vines, is farmed on a mixed crop-livestock basis, and has been managed organically and biodynamically since 2010. One of the Côte-Roannais appellation's (very) strongest values.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (guide 2025) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with good production levels, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)
About the domain :
Georges Paire, from a family of livestock farmers, began planting his vineyard in the 1970s. In 2005, his son Romain joined him and the planting continued, the vat room was modernized and the estate turned to organic farming. Today, the estate still keeps a small herd of Limousin cows. We appreciate his carefully-crafted, sincere wines: a modern, dynamic incarnation of the appellation.
James Suckling
Wine rated (guide 2024) 92/100
About the wine:
Delicious immaculate red with aromas of wild strawberries, frozen raspberries, cherries and sweet spices. Medium-bodied with lively acidity. Agile, lively and crisp, with a succulent core of sour cherries, wild strawberries and a peppery finish of good length. Gamay. Made from biodynamically grown grapes. For drinking or cellaring.

A slightly animal nose at first, followed by hints of blackberries, violets and smoke. On the palate, the attack is marked by sharp acidity, firm mellowness, melted tannins and fairly generous alcohol. It's good without more, I find the wine a little hard, not very long (pai 2). Perhaps wait a while for it to develop a patina.

Another country expression of Gamay, with no fuss or frills. A disconcerting intensity of freshness and fruitiness, with spicy, tangy red berries and hints of violets, bursts onto the palate with lightness and fluidity. The easy-drinking character of this cuvée is further accentuated by the tannic structure with its marked minerality, which also drives the persistent gourmet finish. Digestible, crisp and, what's more, affordable. It might be worth waiting a good year longer to see how the wine evolves and whether it gains in suppleness, bearing in mind that the prospects for ageing are substantial. But this lively, alert entry-level wine is already appealing, and is best served slightly chilled, at a table of happy friends, with a board of Savoyard cured meats, and a platter of Savoye hard cheeses. Score = 3.9.

Explosive nose and a real fruit bomb on the palate. Well-balanced with great freshness. Perfect as an aperitif with a charcuterie board.
