"A prestige white with great ageing potential, already so good it will be hard to resist!"

Les Cormiers blanc immediately reveals a nose of small white flowers and citrus fruit, followed by toasty notes. The wine is very expressive and pure on the palate, with a slender, elegant style. The attack is lively and the mineral finish recalls the superb limestone terroir.

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Wine rated (guide 2024) 94/100

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

The more upright fruitiness of the attack on this 2021 is supported from the outset by a chalky framework that gives the wine this very subtle bounce from the heart of the mouth.

About the domain :

The talented Jean-Pierre Chevalier, a leader in the Saumur region, makes the most of Souzay's limestone slopes using organic farming methods (certified in 2013). Clos-de-la-bienboire is a von de gourmandise. The cuvée vieilles vignes is dense, with a refined velvety texture. The whites are all recommendable. The wines evolve perfectly in bottle, with worthy old vintages. One of the region's most exciting estates.

Rated wine (guide 2023) 96/100

About the wine:

Delicious notes of honey, vanilla, wood and spice create a heady perfume, which is followed by a lovely, succulent sip, with mouthfeel and racy but ripe acidity combining on a long, well-balanced finish. Les Cormiers, from Villeneuve, is a prestige white that always has great aging potential, 20 to 30 years at least, and the 2021 is no exception. The vines come from a parcel where clay overlies limestone. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinified in 1200 hectoliter wooden vats.

Wine rated (guide 2024) 92/100

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About the wine:

Les Cormiers achieves great concentration in 2021, an otherwise often strict vintage. Meticulously matured, it reveals an invigorating salinity with panache. A spirited white that should be enjoyed at the table over the next few years.

About the domain :

Villeneuve has historically been a great terroir for dry and sometimes sweet chenin blanc (Coteaux de Saumur appellation), with remarkable ageing potential. Jean-Pierre Chevallier manages the family vineyard, partly located on the spectacular Côte de Souzay, with passion and exacting standards. This oenologist, trained in the Bordeaux school of winemaking, is able to translate the expression of this limestone hillside into homogeneous, colorful, fresh reds. He has progressively refined his ageing techniques, consistently establishing himself as one of the greatest stylists on the Saumur landscape. We are totally convinced by his perfectly calibrated wines, which deliver sensual interpretations of Cabernet Franc without denying their origin.
