"All the potential of a great terroir, the archetype of Saumur Champigny, complete and harmonious."
"Le Marginale 2022 is a round, full-bodied, and welcoming wine. The clay soils give it enveloping tannins, like melted chocolate, reminiscent of a good Pomerol. Of course, this is a Cabernet Franc from the Loire, with floral, blackberry, and raspberry aromas. It is pure, elegant and finely textured, with a powdery texture and a long, fragrant finish reminiscent of black tea, iron (blood) and blackberries." (Vinous A. Galloni) A must-have from the Roches Neuves estate.

Wine rated 92/100
Rated estate (2026 guide) 5 stars (Exceptional producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)
About the estate:
Thierry Germain has made his estate a benchmark and a leading address for biodynamics and great Loire wines, while successfully passing on his passion to his children, Jeanne and Louis, who now work with him. The dense, energetic wines showcase the magnificent limestone terroirs of the Saumur-Champigny appellation, particularly the Clos Romans and Clos de L'Echelier single vineyard wines. Low yields result in beautifully concentrated reds that are silky and long on the palate.

Wine rating (2024 guide) 92+/100 (Outstanding wine)
About wine:
Grown on clay-limestone soils, Saumur Champigny La Marginale 2022 is aged for one year in 25-hectoliter casks, revealing a delicate, deep bouquet of menthol, rose, peony, and leaves. Medium-bodied, layered and textured, it offers a vertical sensation with good depth and powdery tannins, ending with a long, ethereal finish. More austere than the 2021, it needs time to digest its aging.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Wine rated (2025 guide) 94/100
Rated estate (2026 guide) 3 stars (These represent the excellence of French vineyards. The best terroirs cultivated by the greatest winemakers. Tasting their wine is always a magical moment.)
About wine:
As usual, La Marginale reveals itself with a more sunny sensation. Ample and enveloping, it retains its invigorating energy. It will evolve with panache over the next thirty years.
About the estate:
The charismatic Thierry Germain has developed a unique stylistic approach to Saumur-Champigny and Saumur whites. The significant work undertaken in the vineyards (using biodynamic methods, some plowed by horse) is evident even in the estate's simplest cuvée. The latest white vintages reveal a remarkable saline brightness, going to the heart of the chalky expression of Chenin on tuffeau. They thrill the taste buds and the body! The quest for crispness and precision is undeniable in the reds, which can have a delightful floral quality. However, we are convinced that they could reveal a more velvety, graceful and mature balance of Loire Cabernet Franc, in the style of La Marginale, whose vertical tasting in April 2024 confirmed its aging potential.
