"[...] Like its siblings in the top 2018 category, the fruit profile is not very expressive at the moment, and it will need a few years in the cellar to show itself at its best. Upside potential, however, seems most likely to be realized here in the batch. Time will eventually give us that answer, so come back to 2026. About the wine:
Redoma 2018 is a rustic blend of typical grapes (such as Tinta Amarela, Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinto Cão) aged for 22 months in old Portuguese 1,000-liter vats. It has an alcohol content of just 12.5%. My pick for the best of this issue's top 2018 reds, and a relatively good bargain to boot, this wine easily coats the palate. Then it shows its power. Like its siblings in the top 2018 category, the fruit profile isn't very expressive at the moment, and it will need a few years in the cellar to show itself at its best. Upside potential, however, seems most likely to be realized here in the batch. Time will eventually give us that answer, so come back to 2026. Here's another of Niepoort's 2018s that you'll only want to buy if you can cellar it, at least for a few years. This wine looks to be a beauty in the making, but let's be a little cautious given its closed, airtight nature. There were 31,000 bottles produced from old vines (70+ years old).

Atypical Portuguese wine, delicate, light, with a hint of pinot. As far as I'm concerned, it's unexpected and, above all, not very convincing. A real disappointment
