Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Rated estate (2023 guide) 3 stars (High-quality production, serving as a benchmark in its sector)

About the estate:

Vintage after vintage, Revelette has established itself as a grand cru of Provence. Hidden in a valley on the north side of the Sainte-Victoire mountain, Peter Fischer has been running the estate since the mid-1980s, using farming methods that are as natural as possible. Surrounded by forests, the plots are located in a wild setting and transform into a vast flower meadow in the spring. Generous by nature, Peter also keeps Kiki, a domesticated pig, peacocks, chickens, dogs, and cats on his property, reminiscent of Pippi Longstocking's house. This passion for living things is reflected in the glass, with fine, well-balanced wines. Recently, the younger generation has been preparing to take over, and his daughter Clara is on her way to taking up the challenge.

Guide des Vins Gault & Millau

5-star rated estate (Outstanding production)

About the estate:

Revelette comprises 24 hectares of vineyards, 12 plots located between 330 and 400 meters above sea level, planted with nine grape varieties, mainly red (Grenache, Cinsault, Carignan, Syrah, but also Cabernet). It is the northernmost terroir of the Coteaux d'Aix-en-Provence appellation, located about thirty kilometers north of Aix, in Jouques. But Revelette is also, and above all, Peter Fischer and his partner Sandra, who run the vineyard organically with plowing, natural grass cover, sheep manure, etc.

Wine rated (2024 guide) 93/100

Rated estate (2023 guide) 2 stars (These very large estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, deserve a place in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).

About wine:

With its high-altitude terroir and the vision of owner Peter Fischer, Revelette's reputation is well established. The perfectly balanced whites are exciting, but it is the reds that Pur will be presenting in 2022, made from macerated Grenache and vinified in barrels, characterized by notes of blood orange and hints of crunchy zest and licorice. (La RVF No. 682, July-August 2024)

About the estate:

Located in a cool terroir in the upper reaches of the appellation, in the commune of Jouques, and neighboring Château de Vignelaure, this sumptuous estate has been in the hands of the talented Peter Fischer since the 1985 vintage. The vines have been certified organic since 1998. German by birth, Provençal by adoption, Peter Fischer broke new ground in the 1980s by planting Chardonnay in Provence with a vision of producing great white wines. At an altitude of around 400 meters, this terroir is ideal for preserving the striking balance of the whites that we love today. We are perplexed by the reds, which lack precision. This is probably due to the cellar environment, which depends on the winemaker's rigor. Peter Fischer's children, Clara and Hugo, now work alongside him at the estate.
