"A perfectly chiseled jewel
"This prodigious white is made from Roussanne, Grenache blanc and a touch of Clairette (20%), fermented in wood and then aged in demi-muids for 9 months. Initially floral, the nose becomes sweeter with aeration, with scents of dried apricot, verbena and honey, enhanced by notes of butter and vanilla. Lively on the attack, the palate adds a great deal of tension and minerality to this complex palette, with an unctuous texture supported by a balanced woodiness that preserves fruit and freshness. A perfectly chiseled gem". (Le Guide Hachette 2024)

Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
5-star rated estates (Outstanding producers, representing the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and worldwide)
About the domain :
Things are moving forward at the mighty Ampuis estate. In the north, Philippe Guigal has made no secret of his desire to eventually go organic, and recent plantings at Le Plomb have been carried out to enable winch-operated work. But it's in the south that the most important projects are underway, with a new winery operational at Château de Nalys from the 2025 harvest, and new buildings expected by 2026. Otherwise, the first tastings - still unofficial - of La Reynarde, the future new jewel in the crown of Côte Rôtie, continue, showing those who doubted the beauty of the Fongeant terroir.

About the domain :
One of the oldest estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, recorded as far back as the 17th century and then owned by the Nalys family. Its venerable vineyard (52 ha) underwent a renaissance in the 1950s. A sure bet in the appellation, acquired in 2017 by Maison Guigal. Organic conversion is underway.

About the wine:
Notes of marzipan, apple and ripe pear. Lots of spice and cloves. A charming, structured mid-palate, ripe and rich - honeysuckle and vibrant white peach. Opulent, seductive and very attractive.

About the wine:
The Châteauneuf Du Pape Grand Vin Blanc 2021 is deeper and richer, but its aromas and flavors of white peach, apple blossom and mineral chalk are also much reduced. Medium-bodied, concentrated and vibrant on the palate, it has a more chiseled, concentrated style, and is very much in the mold of the fresher vintage. Give it a year or two in the cellar.
