"From vines around 70 years old on a south-facing slope (one of Condrieu's most famous), Niero's 2019 Condrieu Chéry is a pretty textbook, brimming with scents of jasmine, hibiscus, ginger and white pepper. There's a base of melon and pineapple, but this medium- to full-bodied wine is more about flowers and complexity than fruit richness, reverberating with echoes of refreshing spice." About the wine:

From vines around 70 years old on a south-facing slope (one of Condrieu's most famous), Niero's 2019 Condrieu Chéry is a pretty textbook, brimming with scents of jasmine, hibiscus, ginger and white pepper. There's a base of melon and pineapple, but this medium- to full-bodied wine is more about flowers and complexity than fruit richness, reverberating with echoes of refreshing spice.

About the domain :

Nestled in a small cul-de-sac in the heart of the village of Condrieu, Domaine Niero has just nine hectares of vines: four in Condrieu, two in Côte Rôtie, just over one in Saint-Joseph and just under one in Crozes-Hermitage. There's also around a hectare devoted to the Collines Rhodaniennes IGP, both Syrah and Viognier. Although the clean, modern approach is undeniable, the wines are full of character and expressive of their different terroirs.

Wine rated (guide 2022) 16/20 (Very good wine)

Domaine noté (guide 2024) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).

About the wine:

The wine is voluminous and fleshy, with a high degree of ripeness that is reflected in a slightly warm finish. The whole is nevertheless promising.

About the domain :

Since 2004, Rémi has been at the helm of this family-run estate, which boasts a fine range of terroirs in Condrieu, with 4 hectares divided into six parcels. He also produces several Côte-Rôtie cuvées from the Viallière and Bassenon terroirs, as well as a Saint-Joseph cuvée, Bois Prieur, and another in Crozes-Hermitage. The wines are serious, rather classic, with occasional ageing that marks them a little during their youth.

Note and review by M. PHILIPPE P. Published on 11/12/2023

In this cuvée, Rémi NIERO succeeds in combining the power of Viognier with a finesse not always found in this appellation. Tasted after 4 years, it can probably wait another 1-2 years.
