"Enticing notes of violets, anise and espresso introduce this hedonistic blend of 65% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 5% Carignan. It's a lush, sunny wine marked by ambitious touches of spice, vanilla and smoke, yet elegantly balanced by fine, full-bodied tannins and a fresh, mineral finish. A little oaky in its youth, the wine should balance perfectly through 2027." (Wine Enthusiast)

Domain de Poulvarel
Costières de Nîmes
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domain rated 1*Star (A serious, commendable production, in keeping with what one has the right to expect from its appellation(s))
About the domain :
In 2004, Pascal Glas decided to take over the family vineyards after more than twenty years of winemaking in cooperative wineries in the south of France. Situated on the north-western edge of the Costières de Nîmes appellation, he makes straightforward, honest wines with exemplary balance and purity of fruit. The wines are thirst-quenching, with great depth of fruit, without ever being overdone.
Guide Hachette des vins
Rated wine (2020 guide) Cited (Successful wine)
Domain rated (guide 2023) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)
About the wine:
This blend, dominated by Syrah (50%), will have spent twelve months in barrel. The nose reminds us of this, with notes of vanilla against a background of red fruit. A fresh attack is followed by a firm mid-palate, tightened by powerful, astringent tannins that keep the fruit in check at this stage. Potential, but patience is required.
About the domain :
Pascal Glas and his wife Élisabeth took over the family estate in 2004 after the closure of the Sernhac cooperative. Today, they manage a 45-hectare vineyard, producing costières-de-nîmes wines regularly featured in these pages, as well as an IGP. HVE certified since 2014, the estate is currently undergoing organic conversion.
