"A benchmark for the appellation, cut with great precision".
"Although characterized by dark forest berries, this wine has such floral and mineral freshness that it's delightful! Concentrated and very precise, the interaction between oak, fine tannins and fruit aromas on the palate is perfect. This wine has just been bottled and will benefit from aeration or decanting. Cuvée composed of 96% Syrah and 4% Viognier. Aged in 50% new and 50% used barrels for three years. To be enjoyed now, but preferably from 2024 onwards". (James Suckling 2023)

Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (guide 2023) 5*Stars (Exceptional producers, those who represent the absolute pinnacle of quality in France and the world)
About the domain :
Marcel and Philippe Guigal work together to run this fine family business, which since 2017 has expanded southwards into Châteauneuf-du-Pape (77 hectares owned), to be complemented in spring 2022 by the 100 hectares of Château d'Aquéria. And still the rich parcel of land in Côte Rotie, Condrieu, Saint Joseph and Hermitage. Enthusiasts can enjoy some of the valley's finest cuvées, not forgetting the brilliant Côtes-du-Rhône, in all three colors, and Tavel, Philippe's favorite cru.

About the domain :
In addition to its côte-rôtie, hermitage and condrieu "treasures", Maison Guigal owns two fine parcels of saint-joseph: the lieu-dit "Saint-Joseph", which gave its name to the appellation, and the Vignes de l'Hospice planted on a steep granite hillside, already spotted by the monks of the Hospice de Tournon and with a geological formation similar to the famous colline des Bessards in hermitage.

Estate rated 5*Stars (Outstanding production)
About the domain :
An emblematic figure in the Northern Rhône, Marcel Guigal is both a major wine merchant and a great owner. Under this second hat, he manages famous Côte Rôtie crus such as La Mouline, La Turque and La Landonne, not to mention La Doriane in Condrieu. A tireless worker with a tireless intellectual curiosity, he succeeded his father, Etienne. Philippe Guigal, oenologist and representative of the third generation, carries on the work in duo with his father, still based on this property-trading duality. Vinification of the northern appellations all takes place at Ampuis.

Rated (guide 2022) 91-93/100 (Vin Formidable)
Estate rated ***** (Exceptional)
About the wine:
Seductive, smoky notes of grilled bacon, ripe cherries and blueberries emerge from the nose of Côte Rôtie Brune et Blonde 2020. Full-bodied and reasonably concentrated, this cuvée finishes with an elegant layer of silky tannins. It seems reasonably ahead of its time and should be available shortly after release.

RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (guide 2024) 2*Stars (These great estates, often endowed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, thanks to their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
The most emblematic house in the northern Rhône Valley needs no introduction. Under this name, we bring together the cuvées from our own vineyards, which we separate from our trading activities. We thus find the famous Côte-Rôtie trio: La Mouline, La Turque and La Landonne; the first two are brands, the last a registered terroir. Added to these are the Château d'Ampuis cuvée and the Condrieu La Doriane. In addition to these star crus, there's the cuvée Vignes de l'Hospice, a Saint Joseph located on a magnificent terroir, as well as a few large plots in Hermitage from which the cuvée Ex-Voto is made. Marcel Guigal is ably supported by his son Philippe, who seems to be gently inflecting the style of the wines, with ageing that seems a little less dominant. Needless to say, all these wines are made for long ageing.

About the wine:
Tight and firm, with a hint of charcoal. The fruit seems ripe and fine, and there's a touch of pepper. Slightly dry finish. The oak is not yet very present, but the wine is very promising.

About the wine:
Guigal's 2020 Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde presents itself well. Ripe black fruits emerge from the glass, mingling with pencil shavings, dried meat and licorice. Medium-bodied and concentrated, the 2020 finishes with intensity and flavor.

About the wine:
The 2020 Côte Rôtie Brune et Blonde, produced in larger quantities, is a winner, and readers could do a lot worse than have a case of it in their cellar. Ripe black raspberry, spring flowers, smoke and some meaty nuances shine here, and the palate is medium-bodied and rich, with fine tannins and plenty of charm and character. Enjoy over the next 10-12 years.

Very disappointed. Wine that has aged very badly, no flavour... Not good and not drinkable...really not up to this house's reputation.
