Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domaine rated (2023 guide) 4*Stars (Top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
Stéphane Ogier's ambition can be measured not only by the quality of his wines, but also by his new winery. A magnificent work tool for vinifying his Côte-Rôtie and Seyssuel terroirs on a parcel-by-parcel basis. Barrel vinification is mastered thanks to long maturation periods. A reliable source of excellent Northern Rhône Syrahs, prized by top sommeliers and wine merchants the world over.
RVF - La Revue du Vin de France / Guide des Meilleurs Vins de France
Domaine rated (2024 guide) 2*Stars (These great estates, often blessed with fabulous terroirs, are must-haves which, because of their consistency and the excellence of their production, must be included in the cellars of discerning wine lovers).
About the domain :
Since 2014, Stéphane Ogier has been vinifying in an ultra-contemporary winery in Ampuis, giving free rein to his creative talent. Of the 18 hectares farmed by this estate, 3.5 hectares are located on beautiful Côte-Rôtie parcels. Stéphane joined his father Michel in 1997 after studying oenology in Beaune, from which he has retained a taste for elegance and finesse. The wines are made from partially destemmed grapes (50% whole harvest in the Cuvée Lancement). The precision of recent vintages, the rigorous selection of plot-based cuvées and the style now displayed by the wines place the domaine among the elite, and the third star is now in sight.

Served with soft tannins, this cuvée delights with a juice of purity and sweetness, with a beautiful intensity of sparkling red fruit and some macerated black fruit, enhanced by notes of violet and licorice, as well as a hint of black pepper. This rich, sapid juiciness gives way to a surprisingly digestible structure for a 14.5% CDR, and a very fine, extremely delicious texture, despite a difficult 2021 vintage. A wine for immediate pleasure, "the time has come" to open this jovial, juicy bottle and serve it as a partner for veal cutlets Milanese-style with Parmesan, accompanied by spaghetti picorino Roma. Rated 3, 9.
