"Deep, brilliant ruby red. Aromas of raspberry, cherry and flowers are complemented by notes of botanical herbs and white pepper. On the palate, it's pleasantly smooth and energetic, with intense flavors of red fruit, lavender and spice cake. Silky, tightly-knit tannins frame a smooth finish with impressive length that leaves behind hints of red fruit liqueur and floral notes." (Vinous 2023)

Domaine Raspail-Ay
Gigondas
Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
4-star rated estates (top-quality producers, the glories of French winegrowing)
About the domain :
Dominique Ay is Gigondas' old sage in the noblest sense of the word. The illustrious president of the appellation for many years, he is one of the leading figures of the Southern Rhône. Knowing Grenache inside out, he makes the clay-limestone soils of the Parties terroir speak for themselves. Aging then takes on its full meaning, as the wines are matured in large-capacity tuns for a minimum of 24 months. The torch has now been passed on to his children, with Anne-Sophie in charge of sales and Christophe in charge of the winery and vineyards - no less! In a timeless style, the estate's only wine is renowned for its longevity. Very powerful and structured, even firm in its youth, it develops a silky texture and perfect balance. The 2016, tasted in vats, should produce a great bottle...
Decanter
Rated wine (guide 2022) 93/100
About the wine:
Round, ripe, juicy and powerful for a 2021. Powerful fruit and texture, with the dry, herbaceous austerity characteristic of the vintage. Highly tannic, it should gain in complexity with age. All the wines are destemmed and fermented in concrete, then aged in old foudres for 18 to 24 months. No special cuvées, just a single wine produced on this estate.

Domaine noté (guide 2024) Sélectionné (We remind you that this guide is a prize list and as such, all the estates that appear in it, even without a star, represent, in our eyes, the excellence of French production).
About the domain :
The estate's wine represents the archetype of good Gigondas, full-bodied, vigorous and unostentatious. Firm and tightly-knit, the best vintages require four to five years of cellaring to open up fully. From then on, they gain in complexity over time and improve over ten to twenty years.
Jancis Robinson
Wine rated (guide 2022) 16+/20
About the wine:
Primary nose of red fruits and spices. Brilliant mid-palate with pleasant acidity and judiciously defined tannins. A fine balance of ripe, sweet red fruit flavors. The finish is long and fresh.

About the wine:
Gigondas 2021 is a magnificent, elegant wine. With its translucent ruby color and notes of kirsch liqueur, dried flowers and Provençal spices, this medium-bodied Gigondas has wonderful balance, silky tannins and a beautiful finish. It will age gracefully thanks to its balance and purity.
