Expert opinion
Bettane & Desseauve
Domain Noted (2020 guide) Selected (An estate or house that has won us over with one or more wines from its production, without us being able to give a general opinion on the style of the entire range)
About the domain :
For four generations, this estate has been steadily expanding. Today, it owns 78 hectares, mainly in the Drôme provençale region, around Grignan and Vinsobres. Consistent in quality, the wines offer fine expressions of their terroirs, thanks to controlled barrel ageing. The wines of the Grignan-les-Adhémar appellation are among the region's finest examples. Note the beautiful homogeneity of the samples tasted over the 2017 and 2018 vintages.

Wine rated (2018 guide) 90/100
About the wine:
Generous and fragrant, this full-bodied Viognier offers a bouquet of musky flowers, potpourri and grapefruit. In a dry style, the wine is fleshy and soft-textured, balanced by a light lemony acidity, and a finish of tea-leaf bitters. Enjoy now through 2022.

Simply an excellent, typical Viognier! Comments: Although after the second bottle I felt it could go to my head...

Great value for money. At the right temperature, it reveals aromas of apricot, almond, etc. But it's a little too clumpy for me.

1 drunk in 11/18. Very straightforward nose, rather dry and powerful. Structured palate. A Viognier that needs ageing to gain depth. Much more interesting q/p ratio than a Condrieu.

Domain Montine is a superb house, with prices to match. This lightly woody 100% Viognier will be appreciated by Condrieu enthusiasts.

It's good but not at the level of a Condrieu, but for the price it's good.

Very nice viognier, aromas of wax and ripe fruit (apricot), beautiful mouthfeel and a certain persistence. only negative point, the lack of acidity, but due to both the region and the grape variety. NB: The bottle, opened and vatted for several days, retains all its qualities.
