"An irresistible bottle, and for a long time to come!"

"Once again, the Tain winery has won unanimous praise for its concentrated, elegant Hermitage wines, with perfectly tamed oak. This cuvée immediately won the hearts of tasters with its fiery nose combining candied black berries and roasted scents (cocoa, roasted coffee). The presence of very ripe grapes can also be felt on the concentrated, suave and powerful palate, built on fine, tight tannins, the fruit of skilful ageing in Burgundy barrels of different ages (30% new). The finish is long and fragrant, with notes of plum and sweet spices. A bottle that's already irresistible, and for a long time to come". (Le Guide Hachette des Vins 2022)

Rated 93/100

Domaine rated (guide 2023) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the wine:

Complex nose, smoky-lardy, red fruits, the palate offers a creamy start, elegant touch and depth. A fine blend of different Hermitage districts. Precise vinification and discreet ageing.

About the domain :

The winery now has a vat room of sufficient size to vinify the grapes it brings in and produce its large number of cuvées. It is on a par with the best producers in the region. In Hermitage, the pride of our members who can count on the plot of land bequeathed to them by founder Gambert de Loche, the Epsilon cuvée impresses. A confidential production (1,500 bottles produced), it is a great wine that every discerning wine-lover should have in his cellar.

About the domain :

Founded in 1933 by Louis Gambert de Loche, the high-quality Cave Coopérative de Tain-l'Hermitage has 310 members and, with over 1,000 ha of vines, produces around 50% of the appellations in the northern Rhône Valley. It also owns 26 ha of its own vineyards, including 21 ha of Hermitage. A sure bet in the region, in 2014 it acquired brand-new production facilities enabling it to multiply parcel selections.

About the wine:

Hermitage Nobles Rives 2018 was aged in new 228-liter barrels (Burgundian style) for around a third, in older barrels for another third, and in vats for 10%. On the nose, cedar and vanilla mingle with cherries and crushed stones, while the medium- to full-bodied palate is silky, offering great concentration and reasonable length on the slightly dusty finish. I see no reason to delay gratification with this wine, although I think it will drink well in a decade.

About the domain :

The largest cooperative winery in the Northern Rhône, Cave de Tain is a must for tourists visiting the region, if only for the reason that it has a large parking lot at the foot of the Hermitage hill, offering panoramic views all the way down the slope. The wines cover almost all the region's appellations, with the exception of Condrieu and Côte-Rôtie, in a range of quality levels and styles. Collectively, the members farm just under 30 hectares of Hermitage, making them the second largest landowner in this appellation. The entry-level wines are often pleasant and well-made, offering good value for money, while some of the high-end cuvées are ripe and oaky, perhaps offering too much of both for some consumers.

About the wine:

The 2018 Hermitage Nobles Rives is a classic, straightforward and beautifully balanced Hermitage, with notes of redcurrant, saddle leather, pepper and spicy meat. Fans looking for a classic, balanced and undeniably delicious Hermitage to enjoy over the next 10-15 years can't go wrong.
