"A brilliant Syrah, always perfectly successful!"

"A touch of leather lends extra complexity to a nose of tangy red berries and violet candy. Firm and structured, the palate is enveloped in a pleasant sweetness, framed by tannins that are present but smooth and finely cocoaed". (Le Guide Hachette 2025)

Bettane & Desseauve

Bettane & Desseauve

Domaine rated (guide 2024) 3*Stars (High-quality production that can serve as a benchmark in its sector)

About the domain :

Jérôme Coursodon is at the head of one of the most renowned estates in Mauves. Saint Joseph wines from this part of the appellation (Mauves-Tournon) are different from those further north, around Sarras, although all are produced on granitic soils. The estate's reds are often more accomplished than the whites.

Decanter

Decanter

Wine rated (guide 2023) 92/100

Rated area (2022 guide) Recommended

About the wine:

Pleasantly soft, velvety style, with good acidity and discreet tannins. Very well-balanced, easy-drinking but not basic, with a chiseled, granitic texture. Classic style, aged in barriques and demi-muids for 12 months.

Wine rated (guide 2025) 1*Star (Very successful wine)

Domaine noté (guide 2024) Award-winning wines (The wines of this producer are regularly awarded by the guide)

About the wine:

A hint of leather adds complexity to a nose of tart red berries and violet candy. Firm and structured, the palate is enveloped in a pleasant sweetness, framed by tannins that are present but smooth and finely cocoaed.

About the domain :

Established for four generations in Mauves, the cradle of the Saint Joseph appellation, father Pierre Coursodon and son Jérôme, who settled here in 1999, manage 17 hectares of vines dedicated solely to Saint Joseph, mainly in its red version. The domaine's wines have long been included in the Guide's selections: with rare consistency, they have been awarded stars and Favorites.

Wine rated (guide 2025) 92/100

Domaine rated (guide 2022) 1*Star (Stars in the making or quality winemakers with a good level of production, you won't be disappointed when you taste the wines from these estates)

About the wine:

Silice perfectly fulfills its role as a typically Rhône-dynamic, easy-to-digest cuvée. On the palate, there's lovely crunchy fruit and a hint of spice that awakens the finish. This is a pleasure wine that can be enjoyed on its fruit.

About the domain :

The Coursodon family has been winegrowers since the late 19th century. The estate owns vines in the renowned areas of Mauves, Tournon, Saint-Jean-de-Muzol and Glun. The whites are full-bodied, without excessive wood. For reds, L'Olivaie comes from the heart of Sainte-Épine, in the village of Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. However, recent vintages have been very demonstrative, with very pronounced oaky notes. The result is wines that are not always easy to digest. We regret that we have to withdraw one star from the domaine.

Wine rated (guide 2023) 16.5/20

Rated domain (guide 2023) Recommended

About the wine:

The nose is attractive, with vibrant notes of pure black fruit and sandalwood. The palate is fresh, soft, mellow and round, with fine-grained tannins and moderate freshness. An elegant, seductive and inviting style that will give much pleasure over the next 3-4 years.

James Suckling

Wine rated (guide 2024) 93/100

Rated domain (guide 2023) Recommended

About the wine:

A well-balanced, textured and precise Saint-Joseph with notes of black cherry, crushed raspberry, roasted meat and a few peppercorns on the nose. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins. The center of the palate is bright, pure and crisp, with a juicy black cherry character. Elegant, yet intense and vital, with a precise, lively finish and excellent length. Enjoy or keep.

Rated wine (guide 2024) 91-93/100

Rated domain (guide 2023) Recommended

About the wine:

Red and black fruits, flowers, chalky minerality and subtle leather and spicy nuances emerge from Saint Joseph Silice 2022. A medium to full-bodied Saint Joseph, beautifully balanced and elegant, with fine tannins and a lovely sensation of freshness. It should shine on release, but given its overall balance and purity, it could also evolve for 15 years.
